He has risen! This year, Easter was spread out over two weeks. We had the Reed Easter dinner a week early and then celebrated Holy week, as much as we could remember to, and then easter dinner with the Gardiners and general conference. There was so much Eastery things to digest but this year what I thought about the most, more than ever before, was Saturday. Between Jesus being crucified on Friday and rising on Sunday, Saturday must have been the saddest day. Im sure it was a day filled with emptiness, especially not knowing at the time that Sunday was coming and what that day would bring. Saturday must have felt heavy and sad. Sometimes, I think we feel like we're in our own Saturday... and I was reminded this Easter to try to remember that Sunday is coming. I am so so grateful for the Saviour and his sacrifice for each of us. I am so incredibly grateful for our children and our family and celebrating Easter was lovely this year.
The Reeds booked the church gym for easter dinner this year. Our kids love this. They played basketball, hung out with cousins, did an easter egg hunt and had a full pizza party easter dinner! 10/10!!
My parents hosted the Gardiner Easter dinner this year. It was amazing! My Mom always decorates her tables to cute with personal touches and thinks of everyone specifically while she's doing it! The grandkids did an easter egg hunt, we had steak, baked potatoes, salads and strawberry short cake for dessert. Like, Mom.. are you kidding me!? We all felt so spoiled, and full!
Because both big family dinners were done we had Easter Sunday to ourselves and it was actually really glorious, and special. Brian and I got up a little earlier than everyone else and set an easter breakfast table. We did bacon and eggs, berries and homemade caramel sauce and a leftover pumpkin pie that my mom gave us from her easter dinner. Our kids made mention how they thought we should do this more often, it was awesome.
Of course, the Easter bunny came with his annual scavenger hunt too leading to their individual easter baskets hiding under their beds.
Our day was relaxing, we watched general conference.. kind of.. while Brian and Bentley used gaffer tape to make basketball lines in our basement. Worked on a puzzle, ate WAY TOO MANY candies and easter treats and got caught up on some laundry. We stayed in sweats all day long and it was the perfect book end to spring break!
Easter is such a beautiful sacred time to reflect on our Saviour and we did just that with a side of sugar and activities too! Happy Easter!
