How did this day arrive already. This first day of school came so fast and was filled with excitement and news and a TON of new things. New teachers, new schedules, and for Carter.. even a new school.
Let's start with Bentley and Penny first. This year, they are back at RDL but without Carter. Bentley is now the oldest sibling! Feels super weird to have just two of them at this school that has held all our children's memories for the last 9 years.
Yesterday, Bentley started grade 8 and Penny grade 6.
Bentley is excited to start school sports and see all his friends. Unfortunately, he was put in a class completely opposite to all his great friend group which came as equally surprising and sad but he has such a good personality and has chosen to find the good and try to have a great year. He has two buddies and his cousin, Sawyer, in his class and will roll with that and make the best of it. He had a great first day at school. Was nervous but excited and said it turned out good which I am so thankful for.
This kid is an amazing help around the house and just notices things that others don't so as much as he feels a little on an island with his class placement this year, I know he will be able to make the best of it. Im confident he will have a great year ahead. I love you so much Bentley!!! You're amazing!
Penny's friend group was split right down the middle for classes this year, all the boys in one class and the girls in another. Penny was so happy to hear Jersey and Myranda are in her class but felt sad the boys weren't in their class this year again (even though we all knew last year was as lucky as a four leaf clover to have them all together!).
Penny is THRILLED to have locker this year (even if its just the small one inside of her class) and came home last night and spent hours printing pictures of her friends and glueing them to magnets so she could decorate her locker. Having a girl is very different than having boys with lockers. They did not care at all, no decorating and Im sure it was just a gong show disaster when you opened it lol. Although with all the things penny is taking to school to make sure her locker is just right, it might also look like a gong show disaster in a day LOL.
Im excited for her to be in grade 6. She has an awesome teacher and is motivated to work and we're excited to see what this year has in store for her. I cannot believe this is our very last year of elementary school! This is feeling weird!
And lastly. Carter. HIGH SCHOOL CARTER! What the heck! How did we get here so fast. Carter started High School yesterday. Its a huge adjustment going from a small farm school with 400 kids total from kindergarten to grade 9 to 600 kids just in grade 10 and 1800 kids in the entire school. Two levels, classes in every wing, knowing very few people. I feel like Im driving the fastest minivan over 100 speed bumps of nerves and trying to do it with a smile and confidence for our boy.
He was nervous, of course, and excited too. He is trying to get the hang of it and is so so wildly grateful he has his best friend, Nixon with him. We are already missing their other BF, Toby, so much. Carter decided to do football this season at school so that keeps him super busy with a practice every day after school from 4-6pm. According to others who have been to this high school before he got incredible teachers and we are so grateful for that too.
I just cannot believe he is on the home stretch of grade school. I cannot believe I dropped him off at this massive high school and I haven't stopped praying for him. I am proud of you Carter and know you're going to get your bearings and crush this year.
He said his first day was good but I got a text around 2:45 from him saying he was super sick. He was definitely "glutened" at the back to school BBQ. Poor kid! I picked him up right at the bell. He missed football practice but chatted with his coach and let him know what was happening. I took him home where he spent hours in the bathroom but is feeling better today so hopefully its a better day for him.
One funny story I dont want to forget is that as they were going from class to class yesterday Carter said he showed up to his Sports performance option. There were 40 kids and only two boys. Carter and someone else. They sat together on the bleachers and listened to the teacher introduce her self and felt weird that there were only two guys in there. After the teacher gae her introduction, she came up and asked them if they enjoyed sitting at the back of the GIRLS ONLY Sports performance class. HAHAHAHA they both assured her that they were in the right place according to their schedule and once she double checked she realized it was a school admin error LOL. She sent them to the guidance counsellor who helped them both get into next semester's sports performance class that will definitely not be all girls! It was the best laugh.
Today is his first actual day of school. Class by class for the entire day. Praying it goes good for my guy. I am so proud of you Carter. This adjustment is big but I know you'll find your way in no time!
Here's to another school year of great days, hard work, tough days and amazing memories made while you're away each day.
I Love you guys through and through!
