End of an Era.

How do I get my heart to catch up with my head all while knowing that motherhood is a constant whiplash of love in every direction at high speed. Penny approached Brian and I about a month ago expressing that she felt done with dance. She was excited to try other things, singing and baseball being in the mix of things she wanted to try. Penny has been in dance since she was 2. The day we found out we were having a girl after welcoming two of the best boys in the world, I couldn't express my excitement for all things pink, including tutus and dance classes.

I have always vowed to be sitting front row at whatever our kids passions were and would support them through trying it all so this was my time to breath deep, take a big gulp and give our girl a big hug telling her how proud I was of her for knowing herself well enough to want to expand her experiences and get out of her comfort zone. But why is this stinging so much!? It's had to let things go. Change is always hard, for me.

So, although we waited a few weeks, a few more dance classes and a Christmas break to see if she'd change her mind or regret her decision.. she was set. She knew what she wanted to do. We wrote the email to un-enroll her in her 3 dance classes. Pressed send and did a mental check on her first, then on me, silently, in my mind. She was doing great, felt confident in her decision and hasn't thought twice about it.

We haven't dragged our feet. She has been to one trial group singing class where she knew no one and yet sat there and sang her heart out for 45 minutes.

She is signed up for baseball evaluations in March and about to go into Foundation Basketball tryouts this weekend.

We are trading in the ballet shoes, tights and a body suit for cleats, a baseball helmet, basketball shoes and singing lessons.

This girl is fierce! She is so brave and always looking for more. More experiences, more opportunities and more challenges. She is amazing in every way.

Here's to a new little era with the best Penny in the entire world. I am so proud of who you are, Penny. Love you, girl!
