Divisional & Zones
To say I am one proud mom would be an understatement. Both our boys had a goal to make it to divisionals for x-country this year. To be fair... it was mostly for the McDonald's and Wendy's that the teams go to after the race but nonetheless, they ran the qualifying race and both Bentley and Carter were able to make it to Divisionals.
There was a handful of other dragons racing too and it was such a fun day to hang out, cheer each other on and try our best!
Bentley's grade ran before Carter's grade. It was awesome seeing them all huddled together hyping each other up and getting ready to race.
It was a tough track with a crazy hill to climb right at the end. I saw a lot of kids crossing that finish line and pretty quickly barfing. It wasn't pretty but it's cool to see how much effort everyone puts into these races.
Bentley raced hard and crossed that finish line as best as he could.
The best part.. hanging out with his friends, his brother and all their crews.
Carter's race was very similar. Hanging out with friends, warming up, huddling together to hype each other up. It was honestly so much fun to see!
Although Carter was really only at this race for the after party.. he wasn't prepared with running shoes and to be honest.. I'm not sure he really cared that much until later. Watching him fly off that start line was pretty fun.
Carter finished the race and felt sick pretty quickly after. He did roll his ankle the day before at a volleyball game so I knew he wasn't 100%. He did great however and it was so fun to see him complete that tricky track!
When Zone invitations came out we had zero expectations for the boys to be invited to that... we were only at divisionals for the McDonalds after party, remember!? Bentley learnt that had his time been 5 seconds faster across that finish line, he would have been able to go to zones. He honestly was really bummed about it and I think it will light a little fire underneath him for next year knowing how much he actually wished he could have gone today.
Carter was invited to zones however. We were all surprised because we knew his time wasn't "zone worthy" but they needed another runner and invited Carter to do it with the team. To my surprise.. Carter didn't take this lightly. He actually prepared for it and wants to win our school that banner and have his name on it! He even went for a 5k run with Bri two nights ago. He wore quality running shoes, had an Apple Watch on to track his progress per km and literally tried his very best.
CARTER KILLED IT! He sprinted, paced himself and came across that finish line in amazing time!! He was all smiles and didn't even feel sick but instead he felt good! He placed 34th out of 120ish kids. I am so so so proud of him! I didn't get pictures of him crossing that finishing line or starting because I was taking videos for Brian and sending them in real time to him because he had to work but his whole heart was really at that race today.
Carter, way to go! Way to prove to the team how much you valued being there with them! You should be so proud of yourself!
I am so proud of both Bentley & Carter and can't wait to see where their running journeys take them! Tomorrow, Penny runs her final cross country race and I can't wait to do it all again for her tomorrow!
