Winter Camp.
To be honest, the thought of a winter camp initially sounded like H-E-double-hockey-sticks to me! Eww. Camping in general is .... ok... but in the winter.. freezing.. wet snow.. tents!? Ya, no thanks.
Luckily for everyone in this family.. we have THE BESSSSTTTTTTT Dad who is always in for literally any adventure! Our kids are SO wildly lucky to have a Dad who doesn't shy away from any adventure, any day of the year. I am so so so grateful for this personality trait of his. Life will never be dull and we won't be missing out on things we *think* will be horrible.
As for Brian.. although he also wasn't jumping for joy at the thought of winter camp.. he was ready for the challenge and took every opportunity to try to get the boys on board as best as he could.
They were going with some of the youth in our ward. Penny and I were at home on a girls night! Brian and the boys left first thing Friday morning.
The drove almost 2 hours to their remote location at Porcupine Hills. They arrived in a literal Winter Wonderland! Like, HOW BEAUTIFUL!!
The boys slept in a tent with a heater and bunk bed cots. The leaders slept in their vehicles. They built a massive fire.. that they started with gasoline and fireballs (insert eye roll here... maybe a mother should have gone too lol)
The did sledding down this amazing tree snow tunnel..
They played maphia around the campfire, shot targets for hours and cut down trees. The testosterone was flowing and I wish I could have captured their smiles when they got home to tell me all about it.
They even each had roman candles and a full firework show at the end of the night ..
The night before they left for camp, the boys kinda looked like they were going to a funeral. They were not excited about it however, in true Brian fashion, he made sure our boys had a BLAST. I am so glad they got to experience a winter camp and that they came home safe and warm and only with good stories to tell. What a win!
While the boys were gone, Pen and I had a night to ourselves. I picked her up from school and we went straight to the mall. We shopped around, got a free sample at Saphora and found a few gems in the clearance section of her favourite stores. We did the food court for dinner and I booked her a massage that night too. She loved every moment of it!
Penny and I finished the night off with a total chick flick movie (Irish Wish) and a bunch of chocolate and candy. It was the perfect adfternoon/evening with my girl!
The boys got home around 1:30pm on Saturday and we all shared our adventures. It has been such a good weekend and although its technically spring on the calendar, we had almost 9 inches of snow fall the last few days and stil very much feels like winter again around here... unfortunantely.
Sending this city ALLLLL the spring vibes before our spring break starts in a week. Time for some tulips and birds chirping and grass changing back to green! We can hope right?! Really looking forward to warmer days ahead.
