Christmas Tales
I love that in the next generation of our kids growing into adults that they will have Christmas Tales of their own to tell from when they were kids. I always wonder what will stick out to them the most. What traditions they will keep and which ones they will replace with something different that is speaks especially to their own families. I hope that as they grow they can look back on Christmas as a kid and love all the magic they felt.
This week we got around to making our Santa cookies. Penny specifically requested sugar cookies for Santa... yes, the longest and messiest cookie of all time. I took a deep breath and got to work. Carter definitely does not care about the look of it, just that it has THE MOST dye, icing and sprinkles possible for him to enjoy for days. Haha!
Santa cookies are done and ready to go!
Last night we were able to make it to the liev nativity put on by our church as a free gift to the community. Its one of my favouirte Christmas traditions. Sometimes I feel like Im just dragging my family along but the Christmas story and the birth of Jesus is why we have Christmas in the first place and its such a good time to remember the true meaning of the season. I am so glad we made this work! We even got to meet up with my sister and her whole family and my mom came too! Cousins make everything better.
Tonight was special too. Tonight, we met up with all the Reed family and took our our grandkid nativity play to Great Grandma Hawryluk's home. She isn't feeling too great these days and this was a perfect way to bring Christmas to her this year.
Mom Reed organized it all.. the real angel of the family. She brought all the costumes, the manger and had everything ready to go. Brian narrated the play and it was so nice to just be there with Grandma. She serioulsy has the kindest soul on earth!
Visiting with Grandma Hawryluk stole my heart. She was so good at remembering us all and held my hand so tight. I love those hands that has gardened, raised children and felt in awe of her great big family that her and Grandpa created. Being around her always makes you feel better.
We finished off the night doing a quick christmas light run after all ordering Peters milk shakes and almost all of us regretting the flavour choices. lol you win some you loose some I guess!
The first one we saw was spectacular! It overlooked the city and was a MASSIVE mansion! Each string of lights was maticulously placed perfectly. It really could have been out of a Hollywood movie!
The last three in the running were all amazing too... buttttttt, it kinda looked like Christmas just barfed on all their houses lol which isn't a bad thing.. it was amazing, just a lot.. you know..
We have had a wonderful week leading up to the big day and cannot wait to celebrate Christmas Eve with the Reeds tomorrow and Christmas Day with the Gardiners on the 25th. What a beautiful season it is!
