thirTEEN!!!

Well, we officially have a teenager in our home and can I just start with saying.. he is literally THE BEST! Carter turned 13 yesterday and we feel so lucky that he is ours. He really is so so funny, so kind, loving and thoughtful. He has been so excited to be a teenager. He's getting so much taller and growing into such a lovely young man. Happy 13th Birthday to our guy!
You can always find Carter with a Nike shirt or sweater on and a baseball cap (More often then not.. his Grizzlies hat!). Yesterday we celebrated him as a family. Somehow, by some strange luck, our school had their first ever PD Day on a Monday and it happened to land right on Carter's birthday so this lucky duck didn't even have to go to school on his birthday! Instead, we had a slow rolling morning with video games and a later breakfast of homemade cinnimon buns.
We met up with a bunch of friends at the evergreen church and he played basketball for 3 hours (what a dream for him!!) and ghosts in the graveyard for the last hour. He said it was so fun. It was the best way to kill an afternoon with no school with friends.

Everything at home was set up and ready to go but we waited until Brian got home from work before gifts and dinner.
Carter requested steak and mash potatoes with a side of cucumber-tomato salad. Brian is the best at making steaks so its always such a treat! Everything was so yummy. He insisted on gifts next.

The night before Brian and I wrapped up a complete joke gift.. knowing Carter has the best sense of humour we knew we would get the best laugh out of him and we were not wrong. Cards first though! ...
And then the joke gift..
We all laughed SO SO MUCH! We wrapped up a razor.. you know.. since he's now a teenager and gonna need one sooner then later. It was awesome. He didn't even finished unwrapping it lol our kitched was FILLED with loud obnoxious laughs from all 5 of us.

Then, we gave him the real deal.
This boy deserves all the love this birhday! Carter requested homemade blizzards for dessert and we finished the night off with a family movie. It's been way too long since we've been able to do a family movie and when Carter said thats what he wanted to do, my heart burst with happiness. We watched the new movie "Leo". It was soooo good!
Grandma & Grandpa Reed and Grandma and Grandpa Gardiner spoiled our boy over the weekend too. We are grateful to have grandparents close by and that our kids get to grow up with them for all the little moments like birthday weekends.
And to add to his thirteenth birthday.... I rapped one of his favourite rap songs. I feel like I need to explain myself though. About a month ago, Carter and I were driving to basketball and we were listening to the song "The Search" by NF. He said as a complete joke.. "Mom I want you to rap this song.. thats what I want for my birthday" really thinking there is ZERO way possible his country loving mom could rap. We never talked about it again but little did he know, I practised for hours upon hours learning this rap song. Anytime I was alone.. I blared this song until I knew it. It took SO long but his reaction, his joy, his smiles and laughs.. made it alllll worth it.

On Saturday night.. I pulled out a basement performance. I set the stage with a pre-thought-out outfit including an oversized sweater, a backwards hat and mic. I REALLY pulled out my inner rapper. I rapped the 4 minute song only loosing my breath once! My knees were shaking and I was actually so nervous but also so excited to see his surprise. To say Carter was shocked was an understatment. In fact, everyone was. I didn't tell anyone I was even working on this. Brian found out that morning lol.
Happy Happy 13th Birthday Carter. There is NOTHING in this world I woulnd't do for you! You are one of a kind and I can't wait to see all the good you get up to in your teenager years and the learning experiences you gain through teenager mistakes. You're one incredible guy and we love you endlessly! Happy Birthday Bud!
