It's August?

Im going to just say it. Summer holidays with kids needs to be 3 months, not 2. If we could just have June, July & August off .. or even July, August and September off.. Im not picky, but two months isn't long enough. We have had so many adventures already and the time off with the kids is still quickly slipping through my fingertips. There are still so many adventures we want to go on and just not enough time to do them. What the heck! Last weekend was August long weekend. We had no plans and a bunch of plans all in the same weekend.

Brian and my brother, Ty, went on their annual backpacking trip. Brian typically goes with his buddy Matt and this year it was suppose to be the three of them but Matt had a dental emergency happen a day before and wasn't able to go. Im so grateful that my brother and Brian still got to go. Brian said it was the weekend of a lifetime. They had THE BEST time. They got to know eachother so much more and spent the entire weekend fishing, relaxing, chatting and just being in nature.

They left on Thursday last week and came home Sunday night.
They caught 22 fish and had so much food to eat!
Brian learnt things and stories about my brother that I had never heard before. Honestly, Im so grateful for their friendship. And, while Brian was gone, I was alone with the kids for the long weekend and although we didn't have any plans, we used every day to its highest potential and loved every second of it! We spent two nights at the lake with my sister and her kids!
We went to two baseball games of our kids friends who were playing and Penny went on her promised date with my sister to see the movie "The Little Mermaid". She was on cloud nine and had been looking forward to doing this with her auntie for almost a year when the movie was first announced! My sister is the sweetest for taking her, just the two of them.
Saturday was a day FILLED with non-stop fun! In fact, we had so much fun that by mid afternoon we were so tired, kinda cranky, and needed a little break before we kept going.

We did our "This OR That" day! I had it on our summer bucket list and it was the perfect day for it! I made all the cards the night before and it started at 7:30 am! First things first.. breakfast! They chose the word "This" or "That" all together and whatever was written on the back of the card is what we did. No questions and no looking at what the other option was!
Breakfast ended up being "Bacon, Hashbrowns and eggs (instead of homemade pancakes). And it was a hit!
Next "This or That" was either a bike ride around Chaparral OR the Skyline Luge! I was SOOO happy that they chose the skyline Luge and so were they! That was SO much fun to do together and the perfect way to start the fun!
We did 3 runs total. Penny, Bentley, Carter and I all had our own kart for the first ride down and aside from a slight crash into the wall halfway down by Penny it all went great! She was a littler nervous though so her and I shared a kart for the last two runs and it was SO MUCH FUN!! We were going SO fast and laughing SO much that my cheeks hurt!

The next "This or That" was either a Blue Cooler or a white bag. They chose the card that had the white bag and ended up having popcorn (instead of chocolate bars) on our way to the next adventure!

Then it was "This or That" and the options (that they had no clue of) was two different playgrounds that we had never seen before. They chose the card that said "Confederation Park Playground". The slide was Huge! I really thought they were getting too big for playgrounds without friends but I was surprised to find out that they loved it just the same. So much fun was had!
Next was lunchtime! The secret options were Opa or A & W! They chose the card that said Opa and they were very happy!
We went home to reset for a minute and let Kobe out for a bit too. It had been such a fun day so far! The next "This or That" card was either Go to the lake with new lake toys OR Backyard fun.

They ended up chooseing the card of Backyard fun and was it ever fun! We did minute to win it games. Boys vs. Girls and the boys won by 1 point but it was close!
We were down to our last This or That cards. Dinner and a movie. They chose Bugs and Cheese and the movie "Worlds Best". We had treats and cuddled up after a long day filled with fun. It was the perfect was to end our "This or That" day. We were all beyond Exhausted! Nothing could replace this fun day for me with them. I cherish these adventure days with them.
Brian came home later sunday evening and it was nice to have a whole day with him before the long weekend ended. We made use of every minute and finished our long weekend off at the Okotoks Dawgs game with friends.
This really was the perfect long weekend.
