Band Camp 2023
A chunk of my heart left for Band Camp on Monday of this week. Carter has been really looking forward to Band Camp. I have been behind scenes panicking and praying like a crazy person about it. We don't even do sleepovers so this felt like a lot but in the best of ways. Everything worked out perfectly. He was able to bunk with his best friends. Carter, Nixon, Toby and Ollie all shared a room and despite the camp using gym mats as matress pads and Carter falling off the top bunk in the middle of the night, it really sounded so great!
I dropped him off at regular time on Monday morning at school.
His bags were packed and ready to go. He was so excited. I was so happy we had a whole itinerary and followed along for the three days he was gone. It was fun for Bentley and Penny to have these sheets too and often would say things like "Oh its 3:30pm that means Carter must be doing....".

Carter's band teacher, Mr. Pierce, encouraged all parents to download the Remind App so that he could keep in contact. I was under the impression he would update with photos etc since photos were not aloud to go with the kids. In the whole three days, all we got was two messages. One saying they got there safe and the next was "were on the way home". This made all us Moms chuckel.
Carter said that everything was amazing. He didn't see the outdoors even one time in 3 days because any free time they had was spent in the gym playing basketball and nine square. He didn't go swimming because recently he's been breaking out in hives in the middle of the night every single time he uses the hotel pools. Its so strange. He was really responsible and just made the choice not to swim, just incase, even though we still packed his swim trunks and towel, incase he changed his mind and was willing to risk it. I am proud of him to choose to play it safe, that would have been a hard choice to make while watching all your friends swim together. Love you bud, I see that sacrifice.
Carter said the talent show was SO FUNNY and FUN and AWESOME. He and toby sang "Oh Canada" and everyone sang loudly with them, hats off, hands over hearts. He said it was funny. They also got up and performed kareoke to the song "Baby" by Justin Bieber. He said they told ALLLLLL the boys to come up and sing it and they did! They would point their pretend mics into the croud and the girls sang along too. Sounded like a blast.
Carter said the food was awesome too. He never went hungry. They had mashed potatoes and gravy, dessert every night, tacos (he said these were the best tacos hes had, he was so impressed!), the had bacon and eggs and hasbrowns for breakfast and even had a snack before bed which was cinnimon buns and milk. Like, it really sounded like they ate so well and that it was all so yummy! What a win!
I am sure there are so many memories that were made at camp that I might never hear about. I am so happy that he had the best time! He truly said everything was amazing. His only complaint was that the band rehursals were WAY TOO LONG and so boring but otherwise, was the best!
They arrived back at the school at 3pm on Wednesday. I was SO excited to see our boy. He was exhausted (from the boys in the next room over being obnoxious banging on their walls for fun until midnight) but had the biggest smile on his face all night long.
I couldn't be happier that he had the best time, made the best memories and would do it again and again given the opportunity. These kind of memories last forever. Love that for him!
