Still Be Ours
Every Valentines, we go over the top with our kids. Brian and I settle for a card from eachother and put our focus on the kids. We joke that Valentines is another hyjacked holiday from the kids but in all seriousness, we truly wouldn't have it any other way. One of my favourite things about Brian is that he is as passionate about raising kids and being with them as I am. They are involved in every ounce of every Valentines. Maybe its "over-the-top", it porbably is, but this phase of life is so short, it goes so fast and then.... "poof".... one day it's gone and the magic of heart shaped glasses will fade and Brian and I will be celebrating Valentines alone (which will also be a beautiful phase of life) but until that day, we cherish every single moment in this exciting time that still exists. Raising children and pre-teens and centering our lives around them. We wouldn't have it any other way.
This year, Valentines landed on a Tuesday which is one of our busy nights of the week. All three kids have basketball back to back and overlapping on Tuesday nights so we made a fancy Valentines dinner on Saturday night instead. A candlelit homemade pizza dinner was on the menu and got 5 stars from everyone.
This year was the first year that Carter has grown out of valentines hand outs. It felt weird. It made the work lighter but the heart a little heavier. He is growing up into such an incredible young man and even though we are starting to see him let go of his childhood in little ounces at a time, he really does show us how fun and exciting this next chapter of raising kids will be. He is so great.
Bentley and Penny still handed out Valentines this year. I love putting unique ones together for them. They chose what they wanted and I got the suplies. They are both big enough now to put everything together on their own. They are so sweet and its fun to watch them be excited to celebrate this little holiday at school with their friends!
While they were at school, I cleaned and organized each of their bedrooms and put together their Valentines gifts. I have been wanting to get them cork boards for a little while. Just something for them to hang in their rooms with anythig that makes them, them! Pictures, medals, quotes.. whatever they want! This was so much fun to give to them.
They were really happy and barely got their jackets off before starting to work on their boards.
They turned out great and we can't wait to hang them up in their rooms and watch as they change from season to season in their eyes.
Of course, we remembered this cute pup too! Happy Valentines Day, Kobe, we love you!
I am grateful for this beautiful season of life. Our kids are such amazing people. Joking about them choosing me to be their valentine is one of my favourite things. In fact, Brian told me that last night when he and Bentley were headed to basketball that Bentley asked him "Do you have a Valentine, Dad?" Brian smirked and said "Of course, its Mom" to which Bentley quickly responded "No, Mom is my Valentine" with a cute smirk and giggle knowing exactly how that conversation was going to play out. I love it so much.
And to my forever Valentine. To the one who will be here when everything else fades. When Valentine class cards and heart shaped glasses loose their magic and our kids find their own valentine. To the one who truly has my heart in his hands and keeps it safe. I love you Brian Reed.

Our silent conversations and little butt grab gestures, how we re-centre every night cuddled up together and in that moment, the whole world feels silent and in the background. Brian, I never want to imagine where I would be without you. You have helped shape me into the woman I am. You support me in all I do and every year I swear I can't love you more than this moment and then the next year rolls around and my love for you has continued to grow beyond measure. Brian, you make me feel loved and worthy. You make me feel beautiful and heard. You make me feel important. I love you so very much, you mean everything to me. You are my safe place, my refuge and I truly cherish everyday I have with you.
