Goodbye Summer
With a week to spare we finished off our summer bucket list. We did the last few things on the list alone because we had a headcold run Penny over but in retrospect, it was a little blessing because I got to spend some time just with our kids and it was SO MUCH FUN!
Before I say any more. This cutie pie got glasses the last two weeks of summer and he looks SO GOOD! I did their annual eye checkups and Bentley got glasses. He was nervous but excited and I think he picked out the perfect pair! He's been so good with them and when I look at him its like hes never not had them. They look so natural and the best part... he can see perfectly again! OK, back to it!
A coupe of weeks ago, Brian and Matt did their annual backpacking trip. As always, they had the very best time and I got to spend a few days just the kids and I. Brian and Matt went out to their same spot which Im sure now feels like a home in the mountains, so farmiliar, so many memories. The weather was hot but also had some crazy rain storms roll in. The kids and I cleaned out their bedrooms and bonus room toys in preparation for a new season. It felt so good to get rid of things that no longer fit or that were no longer played with. We also got up to some serious fun. We did our backyard water day with so many treats and snacks! This even included a dodgeball battle (with water balloons) between Carter and I.. Man that kid can throw so hard.. I really was dodging for dear life lol We went to the bookstore and everyone bought a book. This is the ONE thing that I can always justify spending money one. I hope they all grow up loving to read. We also had a kids only campout on our bucket list. Penny and Bentley were nervous to sleep outside, Carter was "meh" about it so we pivoted and I made them each a tent out of some extra deck bords that we never used. They turned out so perfect! A little indoor kids only campout. Bentley and Penny said that they slept "Great!".. Carter said it was worse than sleeping on the ground outside lol You win some, you loose some I guess.
Bentley had been MOST excited about making his own Mocktale.. another bucket list item. We couldn't find many syrup flavours but we did have candy stire sticks and made our own mocktales and they were really good actually! The kids used Club Soda as a base. Bentley did Heavy on the watermelon syrup and a "normal" amount of vanilla. Penny did heavy vanilla and a little watermelon and Carter did "very very heavy" on watermelon and "very very heavy vanilla"!
This was so simple and such a hit!
And although we did all these last little bucket list things in no particular order we did also find a rainy afternoon to paint rocks for their Grandma's gardens. I thought this activity would be maybe boring but truthfully it was awesome.
We picked some rocks from our backyard and got it all set and ready to go. It was nice to just have music playing and let everyone find their creative side for an hour. Penny and Carter shared a side and Bentley and I shared a side... I bet you can tell whos side was whos... All kidding aside all the rocks turned out so cool and cute and we were excited to share them and put some in our garden too. I will cherish those rocks and these memories we've made, forever! And that was the end of that. The 2022 Summer Bucket list was all checked off and we banked a million new memories together. I'd call it a success!
