Legacy Trail
Last Saturday we had a "day off". We had no commitments other than a wedding reception that night. I was torn between staying home all day and soaking in the cloudy overcast sky or heading to the mountains to check off one more thing on our summer bucket list.
We had originally planned to do the legacy trail bike ride that day so we went with it but I also longed for a day at home. We drove both our vehicles out to Kananaskis. We dropped the van off in Canmore and drove to Banff. The second I stepped out of the van, I could smell the most rejuvinating smell. Fresh pine needles and the crisp mountain air. There is nothing like it. Immidately I felt so much gratitude for doing this adventure and escaping to our moutains instead of staying at home that day. We got on the trail just after 10am. It was raining and wet but Id argue that made it better! We were never too cold, or too hot. Just the perfect temperature the whole time. The trail runs between Banff and Canmore with the most amazing views to be taken in. We stopped a few times in the first half. Just getting used to the hills and pathway and more advanced bikers passing us. Pretty early on, Penny SLAMMED on her breaks nearly causing me to ram into her but all for a good reason. I heard her crying and saying "A MUD BALL IS IN MY EYE!!!" I looked and sure enough an actual "Mud Ball" was IN her eye. As she cried, it all came out and we kept going. Poor girl!
The kids did great though and by the second half everyone was well on their way without stopping. It was amazing and so much fun! We did the 28 km bike ride in about an hour and 40 minutes and I cannot wait to do it again! It was amazing!! I loved every second of it and really REALLY appreciated being back in the mountains. I have missed them so much! These kids amaze me and killed the 28km bike ride and said they totally want to do it again and again! Our 2022 Summer bucket list is shappig up perfectly!
