Round 6

Carter's peanut allergy is moving right along in the right direction and we are so happy for him. Although his severe allergy is still anaphalactic, we are moving in the right direction. Two days ago, Carter got to go to level 6 of his desensitization trial. This take so much work for Carter and he is amazing for sticking though it. He cannot get sick, must take probiotics every day, vitamines and small morcels of all other tree nuts once a week. Its an entire process. There are 10 levels before eating a piece of a whole peanut and Carter JUST graduated to level 6! Over half way there! So SO proud of him!

This time around we have had a couple of little set backs. This spring, Carter has had two occassions waking up at 2am covered with hives, specifically around his neck area. Which is really scary. Luckily, allergy medication and ice packs seemed to help. Our allergist says he thinks it pollen getting stuck in his throat and then when he sleeps it stops movie around.

It gets stuck there and causes a reaction. We have now been making sure he showers after all baseball games and using a nose spray before bed. This has seemed to help. He did have another reaction in Lethbridge at a baseball tournament right after getting out of the pool a month or so as well..

Because of these reactions, we had to delay his level 6 trial for two months. It felt long so I was extra happy when he got in. We went on Friday morning before school and like always, he rocked it.

The appointment was all pretty normal except for the part where they asked to see my *not-expired* epi-pen for Carter and all I had was two expired ones. The crazy part is that they are suppose to last at least a year and I bought them right before school last September so I didn't even think to check them and assumed they just expired this September. Jokes on me.. the Pharmasist sold us epi-pens that only lasted 5 months! I kinda feel robbed! So, they wouldn't let Carter leave (rightfully so!) until I had an epi-pen in hand that was NOT expired. They had to give me a new perscription and I had to run down to the pharmacy while Carter waited in the room under their watch.

Luckily, this pharmasist had two on site that don't expire for a year and a half! I bought them both.

The most important part is that Carter didn't have any reaction to level 6! He totally rocked it and we're now over halfway to maybe kissing this anaphalactic allergy goodbye!! Maybe!

I am so proud of you Carter. You are working so hard to get rid of this scary allergy and I hope, one day, all your dedication pays off!! Love you Bud!
