Just me and him.
Last week Carter and I ventured on the biggest adventure together. We travelled all the way to Lehi, Utah for a basketball tournament. It was hard and exhausting and also so spectacular all at the same time.
I was so nervous. I felt anxious but also excited to have some one on one time with my boy. We have reached the age of independance and this mom being embarrassing for him to be around apparently.
We got all packed up and loaded the SUV the night before. I set the alarm for 5am and we were out the door by 5:40am to start our adventure. I made sure to leave notes and treats for Bentley and Penny and Bri when they woke up for the day. I knew I was going to miss them all so much! We met up with with friends at 6am and convoyed all the way there. Breakfast in the car for champions! It was a long drive but so fun. We had no issues crossing the border and Carter and I had a blast. A few hours into the drive my friend, Allison, came in our car and Carter's best friend, Nixon. They watched a comedy movie and played games while we drove. Truly such great memories were made.
We stopped for lunch at Mcdonalds .. classic... and Cafe Rio for dinner. We both agreed Costa Vida is better but probably only because that was what we're used to. We finally got to our hotel at 9:45pm. It was the longest but best day! We crawled into our beds and were just about to fall asleep when.... OH. MY. GOSHHHH!!!!! A dead moth the size of a mouse! Poor Carter!! It was right under the corner of his pillow. We were SO grossed out! We immediatly went to ask for new bedding. Of course, they changed it but the rest of the hotel experience was just one thing after another and I would be so happy never to stay at this chain of hotels ever again.
We slept in on Thursday morning and it felt great. We spent Thursday shopping, finding American soda and even went to the Provo Rec Centre which was incredible!! Carter played two basketball games on Thursday night, one on Friday and one on Saturday. Their team lost every game BUT they had fun and thats what matters the most. Plus, how cool is it to travel so far with your team. For sure a highlight of being 11! One evening after a game some of the team got together and went to one of their Grandma's houses who literally has a dream backyard for kids. They had so much fun! When I ask Carter what his favourite part of the trip was, he always says this. I don't blame him! I felt like we did so much. We ate donuts for lunch, found treats that we don't have and mostly I just spent 5 days driving him around from place to place that he wanted to be. I was definitly a fish out of water but tried to just keep trucking along as we went. We spent the very last night at the pool. Well, Allsion and I went shopping but Carter spent the night at the pool with his buddies and had so much fun. We left just before 6am on Sunday morning, we were so tired but anxious to get home and still had a 13 hour drive ahead of us. Carter slept for the first couple of hours and then came and sat shotgun and hung out with me for 6 hours!! This was the best part of my trip. I love hanging out with him. Chatting, laughing and just being the best copilot I could have asked for. Brian killed it at home alone. He did a baseball tournament with Bentley, took them downtown to ride scooters, played basketball, went to eat, went to the toy store all while doing school drop off and going to work all day. He made dinner for when Carter and I arrived home, cleaned the house and did all the laundry. I am so grateful for him. He amazes me everyday!! We made it home at 7:25pm and it was so good to be home. Bentley and Penny anxiously waited our arrival and it was SO good to sleep next to Brian again. I sure missed being all together but I wouldn't trade the experience of this for anything! I know I will forever be grateful for this opportunity I had with Carter. I simply love that boy so much.
