"Spring" Break
This week off really felt much more like a 3rd winter break. It snowed, like, A LOT, almost every day. It was freezing with wind that was biting your face and it really felt so far from "Spring". I LOVE having the kids home for breaks and we usually always get up to so many fun adventures but this entire week just seemed so "blah". I don't know what was in the air but it wasn't motivation. The weather really made us want to stay in and just veg out and be lazy. I guess that was good because the kids said they loved just relaxing and watching too many screens. As for me, I was going stir crazy.
We did do a few things like clean out from under our beds, go and meet my sisters new Hampster and played at a new playground but mostly just froze to death.
This was definetely not our typical spring break but some kind of break with the kids is better than nothing! I will say that I am BEYOND proud of our Penny Girl. She has been working SO HARD on reading this year. She has pushed herself through feeling frustrated and has really come so far. Her and I just finished reading the Daisy Dreamer 12 book series together. It was such a fun read. We laughed and got hooked and sometimes would even read an entire chapter book in one sitting. Her comprehension skills really grew as we did this and I loved spending all that alone time with her diving into this cute fun novel series! Way to go, Penny Girl! Not only did she finish the Daisy Dreamer series, she also worked her butt off and read the entire Bad Guys book series too! She read this one alone, before bed and during free time at school. We made a deal back in January that if she read the entire book series before the new Bad Guys movie came out into the theaters (April 22) then our whole family would celebrate and go to the movie theater to see the movie! And, she did it!! So this week, we gotta make that happen! The one outing we did do over spring break was bowling with friends. This should have been seemless and so fun but alas... my boys faught, the smaller kids were chaos and it just like the longest hour of bowling we've ever had. To try to make it better I stopped at our favourite Pop Shop on the way home, Covet. Well, Bentley's Pop was a little too filled and spilled on his hands. He got upset, spilt it on the floor of the van and had a meltdown the whole way home. Really, spring break just kept getting better and better.
Carter did loose TWO molars though this spring break. I can't believe all his baby teeth are almost gone. I really need to pause time, it goes way too fast. This molar that he lost had TWO cavities on it which was kinda cool to see.. mostly because its out though and not needing to fill them lol time to start flossing more! My last saving grace was that we were spending the weekend in Lethbridge for Bentley's Vipers Baseball tournament. That HAD to bring some smiles, right?!
We loaded up the van on Friday and just the kids and I drove out. Brian was coming out later friday evening after work. The Van was PACKED and the kids were smiling! We did have to go back home THREE more times since we left. I forgot my phone, so we went back and left again. Then Carter forgot his blankets so we ran back and then left again. Lastly, Bentley forgot his vipers baseball hat so we had to go back again! This fir right into the theme of our hard spring break but once we were officially on the road, we were alright!
The best part about traveling for sports is that you always have friends with you! Carter brought the mini hoop and the kids played and played. Its also nice that Penny has friends to be with too. Truly, it really is so fun for all of them. Bentley played four baseball games there. We lost two, won once and tied one! They boys all played great and it was so fun to watch them all together. This team is still really new so I think it was so good to be together this weekend and build that friendship and team atmosphere! And really, what better way to team build than swim in a hotel pool together. This was a highlight for everyone, Im sure of it! All in all it was a great weekend....Except for poor Brian puking all the way home because he must have accidently ate gluten.. we joked that that was just the cherry on top of a mediocre spring break. So so proud of this baseball boy whos trying his best and really developing his skills! Way to go, Bentley!
