Freezing in the moment...
We have finally hit our mid winter break and the kids and I are SO happy about it! We are grateful for the break from the every day grind! To kick off the mid-winter break we met some cousins at Fish Creek Park right after school on Friday. It was FREEZING, but we didn't care.. we had cousins!
The kids played and played! They were filthy and full of mud but didn't even notice. It was so fun to be with my sister for a bit and to see my nephews, man I love those cute boys!
I still think its crazy that between my sister and I and our 7 kids, Penny is the only girl. The only little one sporting bright pink but it is still so fun for her because she is obsessed with Maverick and Milo. She follows them around and helps them and absoluetly "babys" milo, which... is the cutest thing you ever did see!
I love that these fish creek falls are so fun to explore. Depending on how the ice melts and freezes, there are little ice slides everywhere, caves and icicles! This place is the best! I loved this freezing afternoon with my sister and her boys. Such a fun time and totally worth the frost-bite-feeling toes! This weekend was also a special one because Carter got to give his first Sacrament Talk. He was nervous but honestly, he NAILED it! We are so proud of him. He spoke clearly and loudly and with such confidence.. well done buddy! Here is his talk...
"Good morning brothers and sisters. My name is Carter. I come from a family with a hilarious Mom and an almost hilarious Dad. I am a bran new Deacon and just learned this week that that means giving talks in sacrament… I think I should rethink accepting the Deacon challenge. Maybe I’d like to go back to primary after all.
I also learned that Brother Reed is the one who assigns talks. I think it’s funny that he didn’t call to ask me about giving a talk in sacrament, he asked my Dad if I could and my Dad so quickly said “yes”…So I think my Dad should be the one giving this talk today and yet… here I am….Weird.
Anyway, I was asked to speak on my favourite story of Jesus from the New Testament. There are so many cool stories but one that I really like is when Christ heals the woman of faith. She was sick for 12 years and when the saviour walked by her she touched his clothes with faith that she would be healed. The Saviour told her because you have so much faith, you will be whole.
I like this story because it teaches me that having faith is everything. Faith can guide you. When you have faith in Jesus Christ, Jesus Christ has promised us that he can bless us. For me, this means, Christ will always be with me even during the hardest times of my life as long as I have faith in him.
A few weeks ago I got to pass the sacrament for the very first time. I was nervous, my shoes were untied and my laces were dragging on the floor. I was worried I would drop the sacrament on the floor if I tripped on my laces. However I had faith that Jesus was beside me and that he would guide me through passing the water and the bread.
To my surprise, when I passed the water, it felt like there was someone there holding my arm steady. I felt the spirit stronger then I ever had before.
I have loved passing the sacrament and it has strengthened my faith and now I know that if I ever drop the sacrament while passing it, it is probably because Jesus is busy holding someone else’s arm in that moment and that makes me happy for them.
In all honesty, I know that Faith in the Lord can guide me throughout my life. I am grateful for my scriptures, the temple, our church and that I can pass the sacrament each week. I am grateful for faith.
In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen. "
The night before, I put together a little something for Carter. I am so happy that we thought of it because this will be such a good tradition each time one of our kids give a talk in sacrament! It takes courage and confidence and should absolutely be celebrated! Looking forward to this fun and relaxing week ahead!
