Dear Grandma June
Dear Grandma June,
When I was really little and newly adopted into the family you were a true country Grandma. You didn't even blink at the thought of having a couple extra Granddaughters. Your house always amused me. I remember the very first time I ever took a bath there, the water in the tub was yellow. I was convinced that somehow someone had peed in the tub before I was about to get in. It was you telling me to forget about it, that all the water was yellow and to just get in. I remember looking around your bathroom and noticing that everything was knitted to some extent. You had a funny quote over your toilet but I can't remember it now.
I remember climbing the water tower in your backyard so many times. You would tell us to get down before we broke our necks. We would rush down only to get back up it again at the next best opportunity. I remember when Grandpa Weldon passed away. I was so upset at his funeral. You told me it was ok and gave me a hug. When I should have been strong for you, you were strong for me.
My favourite memory of you is when you came one year for Christmas. I was a teenager and my parents had put a stalking out for you on Christmas Eve. When we all woke up Christmas morning you were shocked that you had a stalking too. YOU LAUGHED SO HARD while saying "I haven't had a stalking since I was a little girl!!" I will remember that laugh all the days of my life. That is the silly giggly laugh that I imagined you would be doing when you saw Grandpa again in heaven for the first time.
You never skipped a beat with your great grandchildren. We live far away and yet you always remembered them. You sent them Christmas cards and made us the BEST jean blankets that we still use every summer for picnics. Even up to your last week, you remembered our kids and could tell who they were over our last zoom call. Except for me.. You said I looked like Brian (We laughed SO much about it when we got off that call). In your defense, it was a rough and super busy day and my hair was pulled back into a gross bun so I can see how zoom could reflect a more "manly" verson of myself. HA!
Even when you didn't mean to, you ALWAYS made us laugh. We are going to miss you so much. Funny how you were so ready to leave this earth but the rest of us always wanted a little more time. I love you so much Grandma June. If only heaven wasn't so far away.
