Hallelujah!
Hooray!!!
The last two weeks have been hard but the last two days have been extra painful. Yesterday we heard that the kids actually get to go back to school on Tuesday (happy dance!!) so today is officially our last day of school before the long weekend! They all had assignments to finish and submit. We should have all the motivation and happy attitudes but we don't. I couldn't sleep past 5:15 this morning. My brain was spinning and hoping for a better day than yesterday. The kids were up so early too. Before 8am we yelled and faught. Urg. I feel like such a failure of a Mother. We all took a time out in closed rooms just to try to recompose ourselved and restart the day. I apologized for freaking out, again. They apologized too. I know that their academics are in better hands with their teachers, I am not preteding to be a teacher... hense "Fake School" at home lol. Listening to "mom... Mom... MOM!!!!!!" a million times a day gets exhausting. From jumping kid to kid trying to help and figure out even simple things like the online classroom platforms. I want to remember how difficut this is but I also want to forget about it, Im torn, ha! I am so grateful they can go back to school on Tuesday. I am so happy we only have a month left and then I get to have them home for the summer! I am looking forward to fun adventures and learning outside of the books. I love them so much and constantly am feeling inadequate. I know that they were saved for these days but man, we are tired of this and homeschool is HARD. We have one good laptop and one dinosaur aged computer that, with minimal glitches, works good. I feel SO lucky that our kids only have one 30-45 minute zoom meeting a day and not 3, hour long meetings like some of my nephews. I love that I can see the incredible strengths within our kids that I never would have seen if I didn't get a chance to be so involved in their education this last year. I get to watch their little minds racing for the right answer and problem solving techniques that are so unique to each of them. There were so many blessings that came from this but I really (we all are!) am hoping that this was the last school shut down. We cannot wait for the masking to be dropped and kids to be able to do fieldtrips, bring in birthday treats and for life to return to pre pandemic. This last two weeks of homeschool has been unique. Because we kind of know the drill at this point it was straight to business and although everyday had at least one child (or me!) tossing a tantrum or loosing their lid we did have happy moments too. We went to playgrounds almost every afternoon to get fresh air. We got slurpees and donuts. We went on bike rides and Kobe had all the play time he wanted. Before the shut down I bought so many chocolate bars from the dollarstore along with summer activities and games. I would surprise them almost daily with some sort of gadget or treat on their morning work that I would set out before I went to bed the night before. They really did deserve all the surprises, this is hard for them too and Mrs. Mom is definitely not as patient as their teachers... we all have our weaknesses. I have never felt so grateful for the special humans that good teachers are. I feel like we had nearly "best case scenario" for this current lockdown. Our kdis live in a safe home with parents who adore them. My photography is flexible and so I can stay home with them doing homeschool during the day and not in the evening after working a full time job. We have food on our table and a roof over our heads and it still felt hard. We are thankful for teachers who love our kiddos on the daily.
So. Today was the lasy day. The school work is done and submitted. I've packed their backpacks with all the supplies to be returned to school on Tuesday and as we settle into this long weekend and reflect, I hope they don't hate me after these two weeks of homeschool. I have no patience left and neither do they.
Is it summer yet?? Let me be clear, we LOVE summer and weekends and having the kids to ourselves but mixing projects, papers and worksheets doesn't seem to be our jam no matter how hard we try to make it bearable. We are excited to plant these sweet fresh flowers in the ground but for now, Penny is taking such good care of them! Regardless of my "I feel like the worst mom ever because...." moments, I am so wildly proud of these three. It's not easy being pulled from school to work at home. Especially when you love your school and teachers so much. It's not easy listening to a mom trying to figure out an assignment and fiddling around with the computer when you just want to be done and it seems like it's taking forever because she doesn't know what she's doing. I know its hard waiting for me to finish up with one of your siblings when you feel like you've been patient and waiting for an hour. You are amazing. I am sorry I was stretched thin and often felt defeated.
Let's pack this school away and enjoy the best long weekend! Let's adventure and stay up late and eat candy and just be happy! I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!!!!! Mrs. Mom, signing off (hopefully for good!)!
