Lucky, me!
Well, another St. Patricks Day is in the books (literally) and it has been so fun! Last weekend we went out to canmore because I was taking photos of my brother and sister in law there so while we were there, I quickly snapped a couple St Patricks Day photos because NOTHING gives you a better backdrop than the mountains!
We never celebrated St. Patricks Day until Carter was in grade one and their whole class made leprechaun traps. That night, in their class, the Leprechaun came and trashed the place. He tossed their shoes into the hallway, fliped the desks and made a big mess but they didn't catch him! Every year since, the kids have made a trap and tried to catch a Leprechaun.
This year, was no different. The kids worked hard together to make a Leprechaun Trap.
Of course because the kids want to go all out, we do. We dress in green and silly hats, glasses and necklaces, set the trap and we ALWAYS have Lucky Charms for a meal. Luckily, the Leprechaun doesn't usualy trash our house but he does always find silly clever ways to steal the money and outsmart the trap. This year, he did just that. He got a string and attached a magnet to the end and used it around our table light to take the money and run! Maybe next year we will have better luck.
While the kids were at school I also made them some homemade lucky leprechaun bombs. These are SO fun! All you do is take one box of baking soda, add a little bit of water and kneed it until it becomes the consistency of a sticky snowball.. then you make it into a big ball (I made all three of their bombs with only one box of baking soda) and shove a loonie or two inside them.
When they kids got home from school, they each got a cup of vinigar and poured it over their bombs to reveal their surprise. They were happy with their coins.
The morning was chaotic for us. I had a 9 am infant shoot happening at our house, Kobe had to be at the vet betweem 8-9am because he was getting neutered and the kids needed to be dropped off at school at 8:25 so I told them we do all our St Patricks Day stuff after school. This meant, having Lucky Charms for dinner.. they did not complain!
This fun little holiday used to just give me anxiety as a kid... If you didn't wear green, you would be pinched. That was it. Now, this holiday is so fun and "lucky" and I love celebrating this one tiny day with these three.
Seriously, HOW DID WE GET SO LUCKY!!?
And, as for sweet Kobe.. he had his dreaded surgery yesturday. I think he is now feeling like the "cone of shame" is worse than the surgery itself... 13 days until your free buddy... 13 days.
And Penny!! She lost tooth number SEVEN!! Her poor teeth are dropping like flies. She lost it at school, again, which is great because when she looses teeth at home she is HYSTERICAL but somehow, at school, shes as happy as a clam lol Seriously, just another example of why we ALL need schools to remain open forever more!
