Mid Winter Break!
Im BAAACCCKKKK. Since last March when they cancelled everything including school, I truly felt so lost. We homeschooled, adventured and life was good but in the back of my mind, I've struggled having the kids home since sending them back to school in September. I don't know why. Maybe subconsciencely I was worried they wouldn't be aloud to go back after a weekend or a break, it really felt like the rug got pulled out from underneath us last year and having the kids home for a short or long period of time (since September) just brought back a level of anxiety and all the old emotions of longing for them to be back in the routine of school.
I have felt like this since September. Every long weekend, every break, even Christmas holidays. I was sure I'd feel the same for their mid winter break and wondered if I'd ever be the Mom who loved having them home for weeks or long weekends again. I wanted to be that Mom again. Im not farmiliar with the feelings of not wanting long weekends or week breaks from school, I used to LOOOVVEEEE these weeks off, I used to LOVE weekends and the kids home as much as possible but somehow that changed after last years shock of the pandemic. I was worried Id never be the same Mom as I used to be.
This past week, the kids had their mid-winter break. They had the whole week off of school and I LOVED IT! We still didn't have many plans and most things are still closed or limited but it felt SO GOOD to be the Mom I am used to. I loved having them home this past week. It was so refreshing for this break together and it felt like "pre-pandemic Mom'ing". I felt like I turned a page.
So! With that, we had an awesome week together!
They were great helpers with cleaning the house, grocery shopping and baking. We made waffles and pancakes, baked cookies, made a fort and had a slumber party.
We met up with friends at the Fish creek Ice Caves and it was the best. The kids all agreed that this day was their favourite! They played and played until our feet were frozen and snowsuits were all wet and muddy. The best!
We did curbside pickup at the library too. This isnt nearly as exciting as actually going INSIDE the library but it was nice to have some fresh books to read over the break.
This one specific book we got called "Dear Girl" was one of the best children's books Ive ever read. Oh my heart! If you have a daughter, get it and read it to her again and again. I think I might need to buy this book because I never want to give it back!
We went sledding and watched SO MANY FUNNY MOVIES! It's SO fun for me that our kids are LOVING comedy movies. Finding appropriate ones for their age is a mild challange but we found a few and it was so good to have those belly laughs side by side in the middle of the day shoving our faces with popcorn. I love these memories.
To finish off our week off we went on a small little trial hike. It was BEAUTIFUL! Its called Alpine Trail and its just in Bragg Creek. It was easy and short and the weather was amazing yesterday! We stopped at our favorite playground in Bragg Creek before heading home. I didn't want it to end. It was such a good week off with the kids and now I am so excited for Spring break... even though we have no plans as of right now. Im just excited to be with them.
