Week One
Well, week one of school is done and it has been GLORIOUS! Having time to myself while working away has been so nice. Not dragging the kids around to run work errands was so nice and just having some silence has been the cherry on top! However, it was all nice this week becasue the kids LOVE being back at school. So it makes it easy to drop them off knowing that they are happy.
Carter is the only one who has to wear a mask to school and so far, so good. His teacher is pretty chill about it so he never has to wear it at his desk or in gym or outside and so he gets tons of mask breaks and he's doing good. Carter also is so happy to have his two best friends in his class (WOOHOO!). He loves his new teacher so far and just feels happy to be back. Bentley also is liking his new teacher. He's so funny and gave her "an 8 out of 10 for kindness" lol. He has his one buddy Gage in his class who he loves but both Gage and Bentley are missing the third leg of their trio and missing Baylor, who is in the other class. Penny is OVER-THE-MOON happy!! Last night when I announced that "tomorrow is Friday, last day of school before the weekend!". Penny was like "What?! I dont have school this weekend!?" I said "You never have school on Saturdays and Sundays, the school is closed". She scoweled at me and said in a very cranky voice "I HATE THIS!" She is still going (VERY) Strong after the first week and isn't ready for the weekend yet! When I explained that teachers need a break, we all need a weekend break, she qucikly reminded that that SHE did NOT need a break. Haha, Im glad shes so happy to be in school.
Sending them off to school is very different than before. I've been PUMPING them FULL of vitamin D and protibotics every morning. We've even got the essential oils going. Trying to get their little imune systems top notch. School this year is weird. There is a NO sickness policy and I mean... ZERO sickness. Not even the sniffles. If your kid has so much as a small runny nose, they have to stay home for 10 full days. If you want them to go back to school prior to the 10 day mark (if symptoms are gone) you must get them tested for COVID and prove the negative result and then they can go back. I get it, but common... thats nuts. There is a daily checklist which Ive read to them a couple of times and now that we all know it, I just trust that if theyre feeling "off" they will tell me or I will know. This is the daily checklist.
That rules applys to listerally EVERYTHING. No headaches, body chills or even just feeling "off" in any way at all.. 10 days home. Im scared they'll never be at school or will have to get tested for COVID 100 times this year. Pray for us. For everyone.
They're so happy to be back at school that they dont mind all these extra things but it is a lot of pressure!
On another note, the toothfairy has been busy this week! Penny lost tooth number 3 on Sunday. She was so brave and pulled it out herself. She was pretty happy!
Then on Wednesday, mid day, I got a call from Penny's teacher. She told me that Penny's top tooth was so wiggly that it wouldn't stop bleeding. She wasn't able to eat her lunch because of it. Mrs. Felske said that she would normally just pull it out for her.. but you know, because of COVID it made things a little more weird. She asked if I'd like to come to the school to pull it out for Penny and of course I was willing to do that but also am completely 100% fine with her teacher getting in there and pulling out her tooth. I gave her permission to try it and with one tug, she got it out. I love her teacher! She's the best! Penny loves her too and now, they have a bond that even COVID cant break, Ha!
As for Brian and I. Work is nutty for Brian and this has been my first week ever not having kids at home. How did it feel? Well, good-ish I guess but Ive been SOOOO busy with my photography that I honestly haven't had a minute during the day to just sit down, eat a treat, paint my nails or watch a TV show... not that I would do that anyway but its been busy and its not looking like its stopping anytime soon so its good to have the kids in school and to be working at the same time.
Brian has been a champion Dad recently. Working long hours in a stressfu environment and then as his pulls into the driveway, I'm blowing him a kiss through the van window pulling out of the drive and off to a photoshoot. Its been everyday this past week and next week as well. Super Dad! September is the month for hair with a ponytail crease, tights and sweaters as we both just try to survive the constant demands of school, kids and work from sun up till sun down and I wouldn't want to do it with anyone else! Love you Bri.
Let's hope Penny isn't bitter all weekend about not having school on Saturday and Sunday and that next week is just as successful as this week was!
