Quack. Quack. Give them back!
Is this what parenting is really like? Your kids sometimes drive you insane.. like, actually to the point where you might check yourself into a facility just for a good nights rest and some quiet time but then 1 hour of them in bed and you're missing them like crazy and watching them sleep as you gush over how perfect they are and how peaceful they look when they're sleeping. When you would give ANYTHING for them to have a sleepover at grandmas house but the moment they're gone, you wish they were with you.... You know that feeling right?
OK, well, remember our duckies from back in April? I remember feeling ready to give them back to the farmer. They were so messy and I knew I loved them but I've actually missed them so much since we gave them back and a big part of me wishes that I would have kept maybe just 2 or 3 for another couple of weeks. But in the moment, it was bye bye to all of them.
Well, since we gave them back we have been anxiously waiting to see them. Farmer Randy told us to come visit them and bring them treats if we wanted to. So finally! The day had come when we could go visit our "babies". Its about 40 minutes away so we talked the whole ride there about each of them. The kids called them by their names and remembered little quirks about each of them. We were literally so excited! We brought little grapes (farmer randy's suggestion) and were ready to feed them. The kids were desperately hoping that the ducks would recognize them. I felt like they likely wouldn't but would it be incredible if they did!?
We pulled up to the pond and saw A TON of ducks, knowing very well that our 6 sweet ducks were totally swimming in that big pile of friends. However, there was a big chain link fence surrounding the entire pond. We drove around all the sides and there was no way in. There were warning signs to keep out and of course, the ducks wanted nothing to do with us. They would swim in the opposite direction each time. I felt sad but the kids were devastated! All trying not to cry. All their hopes were up. Penny was sure she would be able to hold Lucky and give him another kiss regardless of how many times I tried to explain to her that they're too big to pick up now.

(Check out these poor fake smiles!)

So, that was hard and unexpected. It was a quiet drive home. I tried to console them by pointing out that our ducks were with SO many ducks. With a whole pile of fresh veggies and they even had a slide and a fountain in there. It was like duck paradise. Nothing seemed to really heal the disappointment. So on the way home I took them to a pond where I knew there would be ducks. I used to go when I was a kid and sure enough a whole pile of ducks were there, even baby ones.

THEY WERE SO HAPPY!!!! They immediately fell in love with these ducks and shared all their grapes with them.
When we left, they begged me to bring them breakfast the next morning. So ok, we did. This morning we went back with scrambled eggs (some of ducks favourite treats is scrambled eggs!) and gave them breakfast. It was so sweet hearing Penny talking to them, asking them what they would like for breakfast tomorrow.. and then saying "Ok mom, tomorrow we will bring eggs and watermelon!" I have a feeling we might be there quite often with their new found loves!
