Heavenly. 2020 Family Photos
Sometimes I close my eyes and try to pause a moment. I try to breath in the fresh air around me in hopes that I will never forget the moment. Family photos mean so much to me. We find outfits, a unique and beautiful location and try our absolute best to make the shoot successful despite the things that make it feel stressful (because all family photos are tied together with a splash of stress!).
This year I couldn't be happier with how our family photos turned out. My heart jumps out of my chest when I see these forever memories. We drove 3.5 hours (One way!) to get to this incredible location. Crescent falls was far. The hike down to this spot of the falls was sketchy and hard. There were so many horse flies but honestly, it was all worth it. The kids were amazing, considering. They listened and smiled and tried their very best.
I have high (REALLY HIGH) expectations for our own family photos. I think it's because I spend my entire year capturing these memories for everyone else that I long to have these memories too. It's the one time a year I get to capture my own family's smiles. Penny's cute dimples and wrinkle nose smile. Carter's SUPER handsome features with a dash of his silly personality and Bentley's adorable big front teeth that, all too soon, he will grow into.
All their small, little features that I never want to forget. I often hear "now that the kids are getting older we don't need yearly photos of them. They don't change THAT much". I couldn't disagree more. Sure, they maybe don't look HUGLY different but there are such special little features that still change yearly. I couldn't stand to miss even one year of it.
I remember being 16/17 with Brian and being completely in love teenagers dreaming about our lives together. What our house would look like, how many kids we would have, how happy we would be and here we are. We are here! We are at the phase of life that we always talked about and we are so lucky. Sure, it looks a little different than we thought. Work is stressful and hello... we're mid pandemic but we still have each other and that makes life good.
Once again we set up the tripod and the 10 second timer and this time, I ran like a mad woman back and forth, over and over again and it was totally worth it.
We lucked out and it wasn't that busy by the time we started our photos. We arrived around 4:30pm but the sun was still too sunny so we waited until 6:30 before we started to shoot. Everyone was so kind and waited before running into our shot and then we would get out of the way for everyone else. Within 20 minutes or so, we basically had the whole place to ourselves. It was dreamy. It felt so heavenly. We could totally feel the breezy mist of the falls on our backs and listening to the calming sounds of the massive falls right behind us really created a relaxing atmosphere.
In less than an hour we captured some of my favourite photos to date! I am so thankful for Brian and his willingness to appease my crazy family photo day. Im grateful he's willing to travel and make family photos an entire day affair. We love exploring together and I am so thankful for that! I am grateful for Carter, Bentley and Penny. They know how important this is to me and they really REALLY cooperated. I love them so much!
The only downfall is that next year we're all screwed because how will we ever find a location that is prettier than this!? Although, I did say that last year... so, don't underestimate me ;)
