Schools OUT!
This is the weirdest most anticlimactic end of the school year we'll ever have. Since March we have wanted nothing more than to be done with home school. Every week (EVERY DAY!) was a struggle. I gained such a huge appreciation for teachers and especially for PD days!! They need more of those!
We were so lucky to be apart of a school that really REALLY cares about each of their students. We felt fully supported the entire time and although we weren't fans of homeschooling during the pandemic, we had the best situation and support.
A couple of weeks ago I organized a class gift for Carter's class and Penny's class and also helped with photos for a special gift for Bentley's teachers. It was busy but so worth it.
I created a movie montage for each teacher from all of their students. It's such a special keepsake. The kids and I delivered them to their teachers a couple of weeks ago. We drove to each of their houses (they honestly feel like family to us!) and it felt so good to see them again.
We stopped at Penny's kindergarten teachers house first. She is literally an angel on earth. She LOVES these kinder kids with her whole teacher heart and we adore her. Penny said she might cry because she misses her so much. There were only huge smiles when we arrived. Shelley, we love you!! Thank you for being the best kinder teacher out there! You will never be forgotten!
Next was Mr. Ellis, Carter's teacher. This guy is AMAZING! Such an incredible teacher who put his students needs and emotions first which made all the difference for Carter. He also never once said "Carter is too wiggly or too loud or too distracting" which I know wouldn't make him not as amazing but I just felt like because he was a guy teacher, he gets boys and it wasn't concerning to him. Hooray! Griffin, you have been awesome! We will miss you!!
Next was Bentley's teachers. He has two. Mrs. Bilotta and Mrs. Hinton. They too are amazing! I kinda feel like really good friends with them! We talk about our kids and our weekends and share fun stories, they just are so down to earth and loved Bentley with everything they had, even though he was slow to finish his work or would get distracted so easily. They are such natural teachers and it was so fun for Bentley to be in his HUGE double grade 2 class this year! Thank you Jordana and Jess, we love you two!
They each had their final zoom class meets and said their goodbyes. They each finished their assignments and handed them all in and just like that, school was done.
On Monday we went to the school to pick up all their last little things that was left behind. Each of the teachers hugged the kids and we all hope to see each other in the fall, like normal. I also put together a happy summer breakfast surprise and they were so happy to get their new books and treats. We made yummy pancakes and reminisced about homeschool before heading to the school. It was a good day.
Each of the kids got a special littler personalized note from their teachers and I just feel so grateful for them.
Im not sure I was every cut out to homeschool our children but it was kinda cool to experience it and at the end of the day, it was a good experience. Carter even surprised me with the sweetest letter ever. I will always cherish it.
Even though this year finished off weird, we had THE BEST teachers this year which really makes a difference. I am feeling really blessed.
