Let them be little.
Recently, I've notice Carter really growing up. He's anxiously waiting to finally be able to be home alone (no!), he LOVES sitting in shotgun anytime we go anywhere and also loves being apart of adult conversations and often will casually stick around Brian and I just to make sure he isn't missing any talk pertaining to him lol. He is getting bigger (seriously he's not much shorter than I am and wears my flip flops.. AHH!). Last week we had some impromptu hose water fun in the backyard, just them and me and I wanted to just freeze the moment watching them play and laugh at something as simple as the hose.

When Carter was a baby I remember thinking 10 years is so far away and yet here we are. He'll be 10 this winter. Bentley will be 8 and Penny, our baby, is turning 6. It really was in the blink of an eye. We're nearly out of all the toys and now into games, sports and makeup. I know now that the next 10 years will fly and I am savouring every single moment of them. I wish I could keep them little and yet I also am excited to see what incredible people they become. They have shaped my life profoundly and I am one proud mama.

Playing with them, getting soaking wet, screaming, laughing so much our bellies hurt and wishing this could last forever was exactly how I felt in this moment. They are seriously so much fun. The best company to be around and I am the luckiest one.

I often tell them I wish they would stay little.. I even go as far as asking if they could shrink (even just a bit) that would be great. We have a standing joke that if I could shrink them, I would. I often try to push down on their heads as they stand tall in front of me to see if it would maybe work and make them smaller...so far, it hasn't worked ;)
I even sing the famous Rapunzel song "flowers gleam and glow.. let your power shine, make the clock reverse, bring back what once was mine.." as I rub their noggins... they act annoyed but I can see and hear them laughing as they try to run away. We have fun.

So when you're sleep deprived, feel like you're hanging on by a tread, wishing you could have time alone.. just know, it really does go in the blink of an eye. Like, scary fast.
I am in awe of the mothers that surround me. We are all tired, overworked and feeling like we're failing 99% of the time but then you have one small moment. It doesn't last long, there is smiling and laughter and what seems like endless fun and it sets reality right back in place.

I will always protect them, sometimes to a fault. I will always stick up for them, sometimes to a fault. I will always need them, sometimes to a fault and I will let them be little, sometimes to a fault.
