Drive Thru Zoo(s)!
We have done TWO drive thru zoo's the past two days and one was GREAT and one was kinda sad. I'll explain why. Initially we heard about the Farmyard drive thru from my Sister-in-law, Lena, the hero of adventure! We signed up right away and went yesterday. It was SO cute and way cooler than I thought. There were SO MANY baby animals and they were so close to our car so easy for the kids to see. When we first arrived they had us log into their website to get the audio clip of the drive. THIS WAS THE BEST! We got to listen all about all the animals. Their names, what they like, fun facts and how old the babies are.
We went from station to station. We stayed in our van with the windows rolled down and kids faces sticking right out! We saw chickens, mini pony's and cows to start! Fun fact, I LOVE COWS!!!!!! Seriously, I would LOVE to cuddle one and if I could, I would have a miniature one as a pet. THEY'RE SO CUTE!! Someone help me cuddle a cow!
We saw silly goats, Lamas and sheep, teeny little piglets and bunnies too.
We were so impressed by how the Calgary Farmyard had it all set up! It was perfect and cute and we would totally do it again just to see those sweet babies again!
Today we stoped at the Discovery Wildlife Park. We were excited to give it a try after how amazing yesterday's animal drive by was but today was different and mostly left us feeling sad for these wild animals plunked in a field alone in a cage. It was fun to see them up close but I kinda wanted to just secretly let the deers and bears outta that place and let them run back to their home which is so close to where they're staying. Obviously some are there because they're being saved or need extra help but still.. my wildlife heart is kinda hurting tonight.
Even the kids said they kinda felt sad. We saw ostriches, deers, elk, black bears, a brown bear, a tortois, monkeys, lions and tigers.
It was interesting and different from the little farm animals we saw. It was neat to see a black bear so close but something about them being captive in a cage (which I knew exactly what I was getting into so it wasn't a surprise!) seemed too hard on my heart. Next time I see a black bear, I hope its in the wild... while Im in a car of course lol
