Hot Tubbing!
Well, just when I thought I couldn't handle any more stress, projects or watching our bank account diminish during the development of our basement, we got a Hot Tub.
We had a goal this year to buy a hot tub. Knowing how well this helps Brian's joints made this an easy goal for the year however we didn't think it would land on our lap so soon and while already taking on one of the biggest project to date together, but it did.
A few weeks ago, during the thick of our basement development we got a call from our friend, Andrew. He had recently bought a hot tub back in December and the company shipped the hot tub to him but with the wrong lid. We had record low temperatures in January in Calgary and you can imagine how frustrating it would be do have a nice new hot tub with no lid during -40 weather. The company did send him a new lid right away but unfortunately it got lost in the mail. Side note.. how does one loose a hot tub lid in the mail.. haha.. its huge and not hard to miss I would think lol. Anyways, long story short, to apologize to Andrew, they sent him an entirely new hot tub with the correct lid and then two days later.. the lost lid showed up too so Andrew had a bran new hot tub with the correct lid sitting on his driveway. So, he sold it to us for a SUPER great price that we jus couldn't say no to. Brian and I, along with his Dad and brother went to go get the tub from Andrews house and store it in our garage until we were ready to install it.
We always knew we would sink the hot tub into the deck when we got it so that was another huge project to do. We had to measure the deck, cut out the deck boards and re-frame it so the hot tub would sit perfectly square all while still keeping the perfect structure of the deck.
Because Brian and I are so spontaneous with project, after the deck was 100% ready to go, we thought we would try to lift and move the 500 pound empty tub to the backyard. Im sure if any of our neighbours were watching they would have been laughing and cringing and not able to look away. IT WAS SO HEAVY. We decided to shovel snow on the whole pathway as evenly as possible and use the snow sled to push and pull it into the backyard. Then by some miracle we were able to drop it gently into the hole in the deck. Looking back, this was crazy for us to do and we felt broken for DAYS after.
We had to get an electrician to come and hook it up to a 240 volt through the house and we've used it nearly everyday so far. We are LOVING it!! The kids are in HEAVEN and also have been in it every chance they get!
When the weather is nicer and he the spring rolls around we will finish the deck but until then, we need to have a break from big projects and just find joy in the ones we've done!
These kids are so fun and clearly.. Carter is so goofy and well... I'm blaming this weird pic on his age at this point lol but... memories, right?!
