Heavy Heart

Things continue to escalate with the COVID-19 virus. Stores are closing, people are getting laid off and the world seems so incredibly different than it was just two weeks ago. I have literally cried daily over here. Trying to adjust has been really hard for me and my anxiety/depression has really been a problem the last week.

We got all the lesson plans from the kids teachers yesterday and Im so happy. They have laid it out simply and within time we will be able to make a routine of this.

I went to the school yesterday to pick up all of their belongings. I went alone. We weren't aloud in the school. We were asked to pull up to the front of the school, roll down your passenger side window and a teacher would come and deliver you all of your childrens things through the passenger side window. When the gym teacher came to me and asked me how our family was doing with everything, I just broke down. This is no joke. Everyone is feeling secluded and sad. I cried on the way home but tried to take the long way home so I could stop before I saw the kids again.

Even collecting my thoughts seems hard right now. Before I went to the school, each of the kids wrote a letter to their teachers. I handed them to the gym teacher when we got there and asked him to deliver them for me. Penny painted a solar system and I scribed for her on the backside letter part. She really misses Mrs. Ozimko. We text her emojis and send her pictures of our days and feel so grateful for the impact she's had on Penny since September. Im praying Penny will get to finish the school year with her (even if its just June). I accidentally sealed the letter before I took a picture of it, but she was really excited to decorate it with stickers.

Carter wrote such a sweet and genuine note to Mr. Ellis. He really has such a great connection with Mr. Ellis. He misses him so much and wants to be back at school and back to normal. He misses his friends and his classes. I don't blame him, I miss all of these things for him too.

Bentley's letter was short and to the point. He too loves his teachers and misses his friends. The short letter only reflects his need to have a snack and play a game in that moment. Still, so stinkin' cute!

Now that we have all their school tasks for the week, I was able to sit down and actually create a schedule for the week. I decided that they could have breaks between each task (if they wanted) and it could be for as long as they wanted. They just don't get screens until school work is done for the day. Because I didn't get these things put together until later yesterday afternoon, their Monday schedule was just what actually had to be done that day and nothing more.

This is Penny's...

This is Carter's....

These will change weekly but having the direction from the teachers is really helping me cope so much. Im so grateful for their dedication and hard work to help all of us with this hard transition right now. I feel like, for the first time ever, I actually have no clue what is going to happen in the next few days.
