Grandma's Tree Hunt

Last year my parents started a new Christmas Tree Hunt Tradition with the family. We all LOVED it and were so excited about it this year. We blocked the day off the calendar last weekend and all convoyed out to Kananaskis to find the perfect trees. Of course, in the hustle and bustle of getting my family ready, I completely forgot about what Brian and I might need.. like snow pants! How could we forget our snow pants?! The best part.. was there was at least 3-4 feet of snow out there.. in some places even more! SO MUCH SNOW! At some points, we would be up to our hips in that gorgeous, freezing white fluff. It was CRAZY!

The first stop we made left us unsuccessful and regardless of carrying kids up and down the massive hill looking for a tree, we were all smiles.

We decided to take a break and set up lunch. The guys started a fire, the kids ran around in the snow and Mom, Amanda and I got things organized for lunch.

Everything was so beautiful. There really was so much snow and every so often we would see the snow fall from one entire tree down to the ground. Almost like a snow waterfall. It was awesome! The kids then started banging on the trees and hiding underneath them while all the snow fell on top of them. IT WAS AMAZING!

After lunch, we headed back out to find the perfect tree. This time, we went down a different path. Also this time, I REALLY regretted not having my snow pants. It was SO deep. Almost comical. Like, "how is this even possible" kind of deep snow. I have never seen so much snow. Amanda and Logan stayed behind with Maverick and Milo and it probably was a good idea because Maverick would have sank. After a good 40 minutes of trekking through the snow we found the first tree..

Then the second...

And somehow with hardly no energy left, we carried those trees out of the intense snow and back to the road. My Dad and Carter ran back to get the truck and some kiddoes stayed in the truck for the photo (Ok, actually just Carter), but we did it! We found the perfect tree for Grandma and Grandpa!

Just before driving back to the city, Carter, Taytum, and Penny went tobogganing (right off the parking lot). How they had the energy to walk back up that steep hill a few times, I'll never know. My body was DEAD after this day!

We love this new tradition so much and we hope it continues in the years to come. The kids said it was the best day, I had to agree with them, it really was.
