Penny's Dance Showcase
Getting ready for the day was hectic. I was working the morning of and her show. We took the kids out to Boston Pizza for lunch and then came home to get our girl all ready. The show started at 5:30pm and I was nervous that she would be backstage for 5 hours... First time dance mom over here just freaking out as per usual.
We packed her some toys and stickers and colouring things as well as an entire lunchbox filled with snacks and treats just incase she got hungry.
I asked if I could come and get here during intermission to take her home (after her dance) because I really thought that she wouldn't make it until 9pm without being a complete disaster. They agreed to let me pick her up early and that made me feel better about it. Once I got her backstage and set up, she was SO happy and SO independent. She saw all her little friends and was just on cloud 9.
If you asked her if she was excited she would tell that she's mostly just nervous. We are SO proud of her for pushing through her nerves because she did GREAT! We gave her the advice that if you get too nervous to do your actual dance, then just dance however you want to and have fun! She did great, she got up on that stage and did her routine, "Apples and Bananas" and had SO MUCH FUN!
During the intermission, I went backstage to get Penny (like I had previously arranged) and I was quickly told, by Penny, that she wasn't leaving. That she was going back on that stage to wave to everyone at the very end and give a final bow. She has ZERO interest in leaving with us and politely told me to come back at the end of the show. I gave her a kiss and then broke the news to the boys that they would have to stay and watch another 30 dances. By the way, the boys really did AMAZING considering and we're so proud of them too.
We stayed until the very end and Penny was THE HAPPIEST after the show. She was dancing around the lobby, her flowers that we gave her in hand, twirling in her tutu and just the happiest little girl you ever did see. She told me two sweet things that I never want to forget.
"Mommy, I am going to dance on the stage 1000 more times" & "I thought I was really nervous and then I saw the stage!" Be still my heart. She is already talking about taking Ballet and Tap next year and all her fears of dancing on stage in front of a huge auditorium was washed away. Her confidence level is through the roof and boy, are we ever proud of her! Way to go Penny Girl, you rocked it!
