Things are getting Nutty.
Well Geesh. In August, Carter had more blood work done for his peanut allergy. Back in February we felt disappointed when we got the results that after a year of the tree nut trial his IgE levels didn't really change at all and they suggested that maybe his body was so busy fighting an intolerance that we didn't know about so that perhaps why his body didn't react positively to the trial initially. They told us to take away eggs for 6 months to see if we can get those IgE levels lowered.
Here is what we found out after we got the results back on October 30th.
Carter's peanut allergy has over doubled in severity since February. His specialist said that its uncommon but not unheard-of that between the ages of 8 and 12 (as they approach puberty) their hormones can affect how an allergy presents itself. Carter's allergy unfortunately looks like its trending on the "getting worse" side.
We also found out that egg is for sure an issue for Carter. The good news is that we don't need to trial the soft wheat/hard wheat because we already know egg is the problem. Essentially, we need to make sure that Carter's diet is completely egg free (including eggs in baking etc). Egg is NOT an allergy. It is an intolerance that is hindering his tree nut trial from potentially working.
Carter still needs to eat every tree nut, everyday, for at least another year (but probably another few years) until we test again next October.
He's recommended a live probiotic at least 3 times a day to give Carter a fighting chance if an accidental peanut exposure ever happens or if he accidentally has eggs then the high amounts of live probiotic will help with the reaction a little.
At this point, exposure to peanuts could be deadly for Carter.
His peanut allergy is right back to how bad it was when he was 3. When he was 3, his IgE levels were at 10.5. Two years ago, they went down on their own to a 4.5 (which was amazing!). Last February, they tested them (after a year of the treenut trial) and his IgE levels didnt move (which wasn't a great sign). On October 30th we got the results back from the August test and he is all the way back to a 10.5. This is crazy severe. Poor guy!
Here is a peek into his daily current life....

He is not happy about this at all!
The good news is that a new tree nut company, Royal Nuts, now is PEANUT FREE!! Which is amazing because although they don't have all the tree nuts, they have most of them so I only have a couple of tree nuts that I still have to wash with soapy water and dry (because they say "may contain peanuts" which isn't safe, obviously) ... so hooray for that!

We are determined to find a way to help Carter and we pray daily that he won't always have a severe peanut allergy. We love you Carter, so SOOOO much and as suckie as this is, you can do it! Love you sweetheart.
