Carter is 8!

Eight years ago at 7:05am, our life changed. We became parents for the very first time and were introduced to an entire new level of love. In the last eight years, he has tested us, trusted us, and loved us each day despite our many faults. Carter, my dear, you are such an incredible boy and are shaping into the most amazing young man. Your faith, your desire, your passion is beyond me. You, sweet Carter, will move mountains. Happy birthday bud, I love you so much more than you’ll ever know.

I cannot believe our first born is 8 years old. My heart feels torn a little bit with this one. I miss his sweet squishy chubby cheek kisses but I am absolutely loving the young man that Carter is becoming. We feel like Carter has matured so much in the last month. His birthday celebration at home was just quiet and nice this year. We ordered Boston Pizza (Penny is still not feeling great so we decided on ordering in instead of going to the restaurant). "Bugs and Cheese" is their all time favourite meal. Carter requested a mint chocolate cake so I quickly (like immediately after school) whipped one up for him.

And his Grandma and Grandpa Reed stopped by to wish him a Happy birthday too! They also gave him such a fun cup game and we've been trying to master it ever since!

Carter told me that he wanted to bring in "cold cupcakes with snowflakes" for his class at school and so we did just that!

And last night he went to cubs for the very first time! He has been so excited to start cubs!

The very best part of birthdays for me is bedtime. I always spend so much deserved extra time with each kid on their birthday at bedtime. We cuddle up and talk. We share funny stories and I tell them all about the day they were born, the emotions we had and how much they mean to me, to us, to our whole family. Its a time on their big day that I refuse to miss.

Carter, you have forever changed our life. I couldn't imagine my life without you in it. I am so proud of who you are becoming. You are so strong willed and I LOVE that about you. You are funny and come up with the best jokes. You care about your family so much and are rejoicing in the fact that you're now eight! You even just mentioned last night that you're half-way to getting your license. (WHAT THE HECK!??! Slow down! And also, stop pointing out the even more terrifying part of parenting that is fast approaching us!). You are such a special puzzle piece to our crazy family and we wouldn't be the same without you!

Love you more than you even think is possible, Happy 8th Birthday Sweetheart!
