Its a New year!
The boys are always awake before Penny in the morning and they always are anxiously waiting to hear even the slightest peep from her through the monitor. As soon as they hear the slightest little "Penny noise" the rush into her room, fill her crib with all her "special things" and get in there and sit and snuggle and play with her. They do this every morning. It is adorable and as soon as Penny hears and sees her big brothers, she is all smiles.
Last week, I fed penny and put her in her rocking chair to just hang out for a couple if minutes while I got Carter and Bentley dressed for the day. When I came back, our sweet little Penny girl was fast asleep. She really is the sweetest little thing.
At the beginning of January, Carter started his first set of swimming lessons! I was optimistic but really had no clue how it would go.
HE DID GREAT!! In fact, he just keeps getting better and better each class. He has 8 classes total and they are 30 minutes each. He really has come of of his "shell" lately and we are so proud of him!!

Carter also recently swallowed a marble. Ugh! No, I am not joking.. my four year old put a marble in his mouth.. chocked on it and ended up swallowing it! I called health link right away.. feeling like a terrible mother.. and she told me to watch for it in his poop. If he didn't poop it out in 3 days, to take him in. I won't go into the disgusting details of taking poop apart everyday.. Ewwwww...but after FOUR days, still nothing... so Brian took him to the doctors... they so nicely informed us that we didn't need to take his poop apart.. that a marble is no big deal and that kids do it all the time. (Thank you health link for making me do that gross thing every day when I didn't need to) they said.. it will come out on its own.
As for Bentley this month, we have started potty training him! I started one day with full expectations to just stop and try again in a few months, but he has been doing AMAZING! Not trying to brag.. but I totally am... in the past week and a half, he has only had a few accidents and most of them he finishes in the potty. I even continue to take him out because he is really good at telling me when he has to go! WOW! And when he goes potty he gets a chocolate chip (for a pee) and for his first poop in the potty he got a huge chocolate.. this only happened once.. now when he poops he gets a couple of little chocolate pieces.
Carter is super happy about it because if he encourages Bentley he gets a treat every time too.
Bentley was also at the doctors two weeks ago when something just didn't seem right... When we arrived, they assessed him and realized that his oxygen levels were "boarder line" all the signs pointed to pneumonia but before doing x-rays, the doctors decided to give him a puffer to see is that helped and after an hour and 4 rounds of his puffer, his lungs were clear! So it wasn't pneumonia, it was asthma. He has been fine ever since so Im thinking it was maybe just a combination of his cough hanging around for far too long and his little allergy to our dog. Hopefully it was a one-time deal and he doesn't have asthma forever.
And last but not least with our little Bentley, he has adopted a new "lazy-boy" chair to watch movies in.
He LOVES this thing.. I brought it upstairs for Penny.. but she absolutely HATES it! She will not sit in it for more than 30 seconds without freaking out and most of the time, if she even sees me inching towards it to put her in it, she will start crying. Maybe she will get used to in a few weeks. I'll keep trying.. until then, Bentley will use it I guess and Penny will continue to love her play mat.
And between all of these crazy little milestones, we have also just been a regular little family, keeping busy and having fun. Ive been sewing up a storm making rag quilt blankets for my little girlie and for friends.
Ive made face clothes for the kids and a few other receiving blankets to give away as well. Its been really nice and relaxing for me and there is nothing better than homemade blankets for your babes.
I've taken the kids sledding a few times with their new sleds they got for Christmas from Brian's parents and they LOVE them! Bentley is still a little "worried" about sledding down a hill, but he'll get the hang of it eventually.
And for those really cold days we recently had, the kids and I stayed in as much as we possibly could and baked and the boys even made the simplest dessert to surprise Brian with... Jello & Raspberries!
It really has been quite a crazy few weeks. Its been busy and at times, overwhelming but it's been good.
This weekend was no different. I had a dentist appointment, we took the kids all swimming and Penny got her ears pierced. I always knew if I had a daughter I would pierce her ears while she was really young.. but I was TOALLY FREAKING OUT! When we got there, I was holding her and I could NOT stop talking to the girl doing them. I was asking a million questions.. over and over.. and worrying if they would be straight and if the earrings would look too big on her tiny little ears. Honestly, it was SO much harder for me to do then I thought it would be.
Penny did good. We put Emla gel on her earlobes to freeze them a little but when I had to hold her down to do it.. she started crying, my heart started racing and I too wanted to cry.
She only cried for a minute and then it was over. And when it was all said and done, her biggest fan was waiting to make her smile.
I don't know what we would do without Bentley & Carter. Penny gave me "the look" while I was talking to her after telling her how brave she was...
But she couldn't be sad for too long ... she's way too happy for that.
Im still trying to get used to her little earrings. Really hoping I feel thankful in the future that I did them while she was so young. No matter what though, she's the prettiest little baby!
