Oh the JoYs of our Carter in his first week.

Well I can not believe little Carter is already a week and a half! He is changing every day. Yesterday his umbilical cord fell off... very cute little belly button! I can not even begin to expalin how much JoY Carter has brought to our little family. He is our life.

When we first brough Carter home and went for our "day after" checkup Carter went from 8 pounds 2 ounces at birth to 7 pounds 1 ounce because he was not feeding properly. Babies do loose weight and it is normal to loose between 5 and 7 percent but little Carter lost almost 10% and was jaundice. This scared us. We were put on a two hour feeding schedule which included nursing, pumping, feeding Carter the bottle, burping, changing his bum rocking him to sleep and then I would continue to sterilize the bottle for the next feeding. Needless to say for the first two nights I got about 30 minutes of sleep as the entire process took about an hour and a half and then I had to start it all over again at the two hour mark. We went back to the doctor the next day and Carter gained 80 grams overnight and his jaundice was not as bad! (Good job Carter!). We continued on our two hour feeding schedule for another day and then went back in for another checkup. To our surprise... Carter gained a total of 278 grams in just two days and was back at 8 pounds 2 ounces. The nurse was shocked and we were given the go-ahead to "feed on demand". This was the best news... both Carter and I had a really good night sleep and ever since then our days have been great.

Oh the Joys of a newborn cry, rocking him in his nursery, baking muffins together watching movies and relaxing. Carter you are my world.

We have been so blessed in this first week and a half. Brian was able to stay home with us for the first 4 days and then my mom took two days off work when Brian went back to be home with us. So many families have brought us dinner.. thank you so much! We have had a lot of guests over to meet Carter and life has been busy but we are enjoying ever minute of it... he won't be this small forever so we are taking every day as a day to cherish.

David and Shari (I worked with them) are A.M.A.Z.I.N.G! On Friday they sent to my home a beautiful fruit basket! Just what we needed! It was delious. Thank you guys so much!

Our first week at home also means Carter's first bath at home... and if you recall... he did not like his first bath experience at the hospital... and it was no different at home.. still not impressed.

However when it was all send and done, and we wrapped him up in his bamboo towel.. he became so relaxed... he even peed in the towel... talk about relaxation!

Although the first few weeks are really just "learning" weeks, we are so blessed to have such a wonderful baby. He sleeps lots, cries little and loves to cuddle. Our dream come true. I don't feel overwhelmed (knock on wood) and I am feeling really good.
