Ok June..
Ok June.. we're halfway through and have done 300 mental health checks with friends and myself. Like knowing its all about to slow down but the sprint to the finish line is REAL and coming fast with a million things to make sure happen in all before it ends.
Sitting in the hammock for a mental health check in with the dog for 3 minutes in the sun was actually more necessary than I thought it would be!
First thing on the celebration list.. WE FINISHED SEMINARY for the year!!!! I mean.. Carter finished seminary but if Satin is a real influence than he worked HARD on me to hate seminary as much as the teenagers do. That was a doozy of a year. Ok, it was fine.. but do I want to do it again? No, not really. I do think it really helped Carter socially though. Since we go to a school out of our district but plan to go to our designated high school it was awesome for Carter to get to know some people he will be going to high school with, so that was a blessing for sure.
Two weeks ago a bone in Brian's had sort of.. broke off? Im still confused how our bodies can do these weird things but basically there was no new injury but a little bone calcified over time and broke in his hand just randomly. He had x rays and met with a Ortho surgeon who suggested we wait 6 weeks and hope it heals without a cast so we don't immobilize his whole hand. Seriously poor guy!!
He is feeling better than he was and it seems to be improving so hopefully we're on the mending end and hopefully this doesn't happen again to him!
We are currently in full swings in final unit tests and exams. Carter has written 3 PAT exams and has 3 more to go this week. He will be done them all by Thursday at noon and we are all looking forward to it for him. He has been working hard and trying to focus and "lock in" as much as possible. You're almost there bud, keep it up!
Bentley is also in full swing of final unit tests and with busy sports schedules he's been using our 35 minute drives to and from his games to study. Im so proud at how hard they're working!
We're on the home strecth with school with a final countdown of 6 days left of school. Feels surreal. Penny is crushing all her final assignments and we are proud of her too! The other day I picked them up from school only to realize that her and I had nearly the same outfit on that day. I love these tiny little connections that force us to slow down, smile, and take in a moment.
Today was a super exciting day in June for Penny. She was surprised to be given an award for Dragon of the Month at her school. I was told this weekend that this would happen today at 2:45 in an assembly so I was able to go and film it for Brian. We are so so proud of her. Here is what her teacher, Mrs. Dixon, wrote about her.
"Penny is a consistently kind and helpful individual who demonstrates genuine care for others. She is always willing to support her peers and approaches every task with a positive and collaborative attitude. Her commitment to personal growth and her supportive nature make her a valued member of the school community."
Oh my heart was so happy for her in this moment. She really is all of those things and what an honour to her to be recognized for that. She really should be so proud of herself.
And maybe the most heartbreaking news of June will be that these three amigos who have been besties since grade 4 (Nix and Carter since grade 3) will likely be parting ways for high school since schools are full and forcing us to go to designated schools in different areas. My heart might actually be suppressing my feelings on it because they're gonna be big and unreasonable and there will be a lot of feelings to feel about it and I hate it.
