He went inside today.
18 years ago yesturday, Brian asked me to be his girlfriend. I'd like to say I didn't know what our life would look like but right from the beginning I knew I wanted to marry him and have all his babies. It was a love at fist sight kinda moment and the day he asked me to officially be his girlfriend.. well, it was an easy yes!
What I didn't know is that exactly 18 years later, we would have the opportunity to take our first born to the temple for the very first time. Carter has been anticipating going to the temple for quite some time and ever since he became a decan his desire to go had only gotten stronger. We didn't plan this date in particular, it just so happened that the temples booking schedule was free on this morning and so was our schedule too.
Carter wasn't nervous, he was just excited. Our time slot for baptisms was at 9am. We were suppose to be with a group of 9 other people. We dropped off Bentley and Penny at my parents house just before 8am, quickly ran through the McDonalds drive-though and headed to the temple.
Carter was so reverent. We said a little family prayer in the parking lot just before we went in. The moment we entered the temple, the spirit was there. We all knew this was exactly where we needed to be. Carter was amazed at the font. We didn't show him pictures of the temple font before we went so I think he was expecting a regular font like you see in our chaples. He couldn't get over the glory of it and it was the first thing he talked about when Bentley and Penny asked him about it.
We got into the temple and Brian and Carter changed into their whites. I stayed in my sunday dress and was a witness to the baptisms. Brian's mom had given us 4 family names to take with us. It was so special. Carter said he felt really attached to Robert Reed who is his great great great great great great grandfather's grandson (maybe there's a few more "great's" in there). I am certain that those people are there in the temple with us while we do their work for them. Heaven is so close in the house of the Lord.
Carter baptised and confirmed 14 names in total. I did some confirmations too. Brian said that the moment they got out of the font and went into the mens changeroom Carter said "Ok, We gotta book again! That was not long enough!" I am so grateful that he had such a special first time at the temple. He described it as so peaceful and relaxing. He said he could feel the spirit so strong there. He is excited to go back. I love having these experiences with him. I don't know where his life will lead him but I do know that these experiences will help shape him into the incredible man he is already becomming. I love you Carter. Your desire to be in the temple is such an amazing example to me. I want to be more like you. I know your Heavenly Father is so proud of you and I know those special souls you baptised and confirmed this weekend at the temple will forever hold a special place in their hearts for you. You are an amazing son of God with a devine purpose to return to him one day. Love you bud, so so proud of you.
