The hardest hike: "Starvey-Harvey"

Ok. Take my words as truth but also know that I dont have great muscle strength or stamina which may be important for this latest adventure. And, Brian and his buddy recentely did this with each 70 pound backpacks on and somehow survived.

Brian has been wanting to take us out to this camping spot so much recently. The one that he's been to for the last couple of his with his buddy on their annual backpacking adventure. I knew it would be a little bit of a trek but if they could do it with 70 pounds strapped to their backs, then the kids and I could surely do it too.

We drove out and parked just off the highway.

We walked through the most beautiful field despite our legs feeling so scrathy and itchy from the long hard grass.
Once out of that we went though this thick and dense amount of bush and greenery and found many little treasure on our way. We found all kinds of huge colourful wild mushroom and even animal bones along the hike.
Because this hike is kind of made up.. like, its not actually a legit Alberta hike (but it should be!) and there is no actual trail, Brian and Matt placed these markers on the trees (smart!) so we were able to easily find our way to the river.
Now, here comes the fun part! Brian tied this rope to a tree and we all, one at a time, repelled down it. This was for sure the most fun but poor Penny was so scared and her emotions let loose at the bottom once she was down. Carter went first. This is right up his alley so although Brian was right there to help guide him down, he didn't need any help at all.
Brian would come back up after each kiddo to get the next. Bentley went second and did great!
Penny was next. She was so nervous and didn't trust herself. Brian helped her the whole way down and she did so good too.
Once we got down to the riverbed we took out our flip flops and cooled off in the water. We looked for cool rocks and Kobe spashed around. He was in heaven.
We went fishing too while we were down there but didn't catch anything this time. They looked cute doing it though!
We spent the rest of our time down there jumping in the water, skipping rocks and dragging Kobe in and out of the river. The only mistake I made was forgetting all of the snacks in the van. We started getting hangry fast and knew it was time to head back.
Brian and I are so proud of these kids! That hike was no joke. There wasn't a trail, the terrain wasn't great and we didn't have to piggie-back-ride anyone the entire time! These kids seriously amaze us on the daily and we are so beyond crazy lucky to call them ours!!
Ps. We called this hike "Starvey-Harvey" because by the end we were all so hungry that we thought "we might die"
