the end.
And just like that, summer is over. It feels like we blinked and starting tomorrow, we're back to reality. I am not ready for the kids to go back to school. The kids aren't ready either. We have had such a fun summer that ending it seems more sad than usual. Im not ready for the routines and busyness that fall always seems to offer.
We have all their supplies and clothes and new shoes and phyically, they're ready but what I wouldn't give for a few more weeks of summer bliss.
We ended the last weekend finishing our summer bucket list. We did our family Paint war that was so much fun! I lucked out and found actual play paint from the craft store. It was meant to put into water guns for this exact purpose and I was so happy when I found it and even happier when I realized that it was 60% off! We started with clean, crisp white shirts and loaded the water guns and were ready for war. We ran around the backyard laughing and screaming and Im sure the neighbours were wondering what the heck was happening. IT.WAS.SO.FUN! It didn't last long and we had a few face shots (by accident) but it was super fun and we all want to do it again next year. When we finished, we all got hosed off and then showered and then all met in the hot tub to warm up. It was such a fun thing to do with the kids. We will for sure do it agian.
Our summer bucket list wasn't done there. We still were looking for the perfect time to host a Lemonade Stand. This past Saturday I had to work but Brian was determined and so excited to put together the Lemonade stand for the kids. He did all the leg work. Made the menu and prices, found the lemonade and treat and executed it perfectly. Its moments like these that I am reminded that Brian is just as creative as me (maybe even more!) and the worlds best Dad. They had such a blast. Neighbours were stopping by and almost all of our family came to grab an ice cold lemonade and treat. Random strangers were tipping them like crazy and they were kept very busy! It was so successful and although it cost us a lot to put on, the kids made $115 at the end of the day and were ON CLOUD NINE! They paid $50 for the supplies and then each got $22 for their piggy banks. Im so grateful for generous neighbours and family that support these fun little adventures for them.
Last night after baseball, we ordered Pizza and stayed up late readying our summer memory jar. I have had this jar sitting on our counter all summer with little pieces of paper sitting beside it. I never prompted the kids but told them at the start of summer to (whenever they wanted) put their favourite summer memoies or funny things that happen on a piece of paper and into the jar. Then at the end of summer, we will read them and reminice about our summer. I was surprised at how many papers the kids did! It was so fun to read them all back last night.
