Spring Break
We have had a BLAST this spring break! We have used every day to the fullest and have so many fun memories to show for it! Spring Break started last Thursday at noon and we waisted NO time! That night, we headed to Brian's Parents house for an easter egg hunt. Friday, Brian was off work. **BEST DAY EVER!** We met up with some friends at a park and although it was so windy and freezing, we stayed until the very last moment when we just couldnt stay any more!
It was so fun to see friends and play outside. Friday might have been the highlight of Spring Break. We checked into a hotel, in Calgary, and made a one night "Staycation" of memories. We booked one room and my sister and her family booked another and it just so happened to be right accross the hallway from eachother. Cousin dreams came true Friday night!
Because of Covid, we had to book a swim time (which was a nightmare but thankfully it worked out fine in the end). We booked both our rooms to swim at 7pm. Each swim slot was only 45 minutes. So, we all went out to dinner first. We reserved two tables side by side but when we got there, they were awesome and put our two tables 6 feet apart in a separate room. It was paradise. We sat the big cousins at one table and then the adults and milo at the other table. It was REALLY chaotic but can you blame us?! These kids haven't sat in a resturant together in over a year. They were smart to have us in that separate room lol We got back to the hotel just in time to get ready for the pool. The pool was SO FUN! It was worth all the hassle for sure. Our kids were having the time of their lives! We stayed up way to late and ate so many treats and we even got the chance to swim one more time at 9am Saturday morning before checking out. So SO glad that we could make swimming happen during this covid spring break. Also, so glad we did this at the start of Spring Break because mid week, the government shut down all hotel pools and all resturants are now closed again for dining in. Saturday was Easter, Sunday was Conference and Monday was another full day of adventure! We headed with the same cousins to the zoo! This time, my mom and Grandma came too. It such a great day! Penny, my newest little photographer, carried her camera everywhere with her. Snapping tons of pictures and getting those perfect angles! The animals were close to the edge of the enclosure too. The cool playgrounds are often their favourite part of the zoo and being with cousins is just the icing on top! Monday was a great day with great company. The adventuring did not stop there. On Tuesday I had planned to take the kids out to explore Drumheller. I knew everything was closed but that just gave us an opportunity to explore places we had never been before. I got some good location tips from my sister-in-law, Lena, who was recentley there and away we went! Climbing and exploring is what our kids love to do best so this day was perfect! The weather in Drumheller was perfect! Sunny and plus 15. I brought course paint brushes just incase we found any fossils. We didn't BUT they did uncover and bring home some cool rocks. Mid way through the day, Bentley also had a SIGNIFICANT lapse in judgemnt. I bought them each a speacial drink of their choice for the day. Bentley chose a bottle of Pepsi. All was going well. He maybe had 1/4 cup of the whole thing when all of a sudden I hear a "POP" followed by fizzing and Bentley said "Uh oh.. Oh my gosh". We had just parked (thankfully!) and I look back only to see THE ENTIRE back of the van COVERED in pop! The way Bentley reacted to his mistake set the tone for the rest of the day. He immediatly owned it by said "I don't know what happened.. by brain just shut off... that was so dumb... why would I do that!?" We both burst out laughing. Yes the van was sticky and gross but it also was funny. Bentley helped me clean the entire van out and it looks good as new. After the pop experience, we went to play and uncover more of the T-Rex skeleton. This is so fun and also so relaxing when you're the only ones there. We made up stories about being explorers. I love spending time with them! The last part of this day was the best! We went to some hoodoos and climbed and hiked and we even brought out our new massive bubbles and it was SO FUN!! We had the best day together. On the way home I asked the kids what they liked better. Doing the museum and biggest dino in the world or spending the day like we did just exploring and immediately ALL THREE were like "This!! This!! For sure this!". It warmed my heart. It was just such a successful day. I brought Kobe with us too and this boy is made for this stuff! He was amazing and wasn't a handful (thank goodness!!) He was a trooper! The rest of the week has been spent hanging out together. We had a Video Game Day. Watched multiple family movies, stayed up late every night and met up with more friends at the park. I have tried my VERY best to not allow the kids to think about Covid. To just have a break from the constant banter of it and to just let them be kids with this awesome week off! I really think, it was just that. It was a great break and we're all feeling excited and tired from all our adventures! We're spending the rest of this weekend trying to catch up on some sleep, cleaning out the garage and topping up the hot tub and lets be honest... more family movies! I am so grateful for these three sweet people who make my life so full.
