Colder than the North Pole
This entire week has been as though we have been thrown into a polar vortex! I can't believe it! Its been -50 in some places in our province and in Calgary its been around -40 with the windchill. You can't be outside for more than 5 minutes without your skin physically hurting and feeling like frost bite is a real danger. IT. IS. CRAZY! Yesterday it was -42 with the windchill when we woke up. That is just too cold. Like, dangerously cold, so we skipped school and hung out with some of our best friends at the church gym. We spent 3 and a half hours there. They played dodgeball, soccer, baseball, tag.. you name it! It was a great way to burn some energy since they've had to be inside all week.

Despite it being colder than the North Pole in Calgary, we have tried to find some fun that really only can be had when its -30 or colder. A couple of days ago we took a hot, nearly boiling, cup of water and tossed it into the air. We immediately saw it disappear into thin air. The kids thought this was such a cool experiment, and so did I!
Carter went first!

Bentley tried next!

Then Penny gave it a go!

We were all so excited about the hot cup of water in the freezing weather that we tried another experiment the next day. We heard that blowing bubbles is really cool too. So we tried with just regular bubbles.

And although it was cool, we knew we could do better so we found a recipe for it and tried these bubbles instead!
2 heaping TBSP of Honey 2 TBSP Sugar 2 heaping TBSP dish soap 300 ML of warm water
Mix well and let cool. Use a straw to blow bubbles.

This worked PERFECTLY! The bubbles were instantly freezing. They looks like small ice balls and when they did pop, they looked like tissue paper. It was really cool!

Luckily next week we are warming up 40 degrees (WHICH SOUNDS CRAZY...but next week should be plus 2!) so we will have to let go of this colder than cold weather and find some new experiments to do!
