Adventure Days
Last Friday Carter had a "PD Day" at school. To be honest.. I LOVE PD days. I love the break, I love having all the kids home and I love adventuring with them so I was REALLY looking forward to this day! We had made plans with my sister to go frog catching and bike riding! How fun does that sound!!? When my sister and I were little, used to catch frogs and tadpoles every year in a swamp that is now a major overpass. We would walk down there with our buckets and rubber boots and catch them with our barehands and bring them home to take care of them in our backyard. It was always something we had so much fun doing as little kids so naturally, we pass on the fun stuff to our kids!
We started the off by feeding the ducks and Canadian Geese. Simple and very much rewarding for the kids. They were SO happy that the birds were eating their little pieces of bread and coming back for more!

Next was frog catching! We could hear the frogs "croking" EVERYWHERE!! But could we find them.. no. We drove around trying to find a swamp that was shallow enough for the little kids and not right on the highway and we had no luck! At this point my kids were starving. It was lunch time and the cheese and popcorn I packed for snacks was not cutting it. So we all headed to my house for lunch and to try again.
After lunch we drove 25 minutes out to BigRock in Okotoks. My brother said the frogs were super loud there so we thought we would give it one last try. We again, had no luck. The day was running away on us and we still had not found one frog.
The kids did have SO MUCH FUN exploring the Big Rock! What a cool place! I can't believe I had never been out there yet. We will FOR SURE be going back!

(Taytum was yelling... making himself feel as big as the rock, I think lol)
The kids loved every moment of climbing and exploring that big rock! It was the highlight of their day!

And right before we left, there were some horses in the distance so naturally we needed to say hi to them. I am SO excited to go to my Uncles Ken's and Aunt Diane's farm this summer! My kids are going to be in HEAVEN with the horses and tractor!

We finished the afternoon off with bike riding. I wish I could say this all adventure day was super fun and in pictures it looks pretty spectacular.. but behind the scenes was a DISASTER! The kids were fighting, whining was at an all time high and nothing (except the rock and horses) was good enough. In fact, at the park with bikes, I hit my breaking point. We had only been there for maybe 20 minutes but in that 20 minutes Carter scrapped his knee and it was bleeding so he was freaking out. Bentley fell off his bike and cut open both knees so he was upset. Penny and Porter were whining that I wasn't pushing them on the swing nearly high or fast enough and little Maverick was crying in his stroller as I tried to rock the stroller back and forth .. then run to push Carter, Bentley, Penny and Porter on the swing.. then run back to Maverick.. over and over and over again. Amanda was with tatum working on his two wheeler biking skills.
There was SO MUCH whining... including from me! So we quickly called it quits and went home to relax. The all adventure day turned into a massive chore and the kids and I were just exhausted by the end of it.
Im excited for our next adventure but hopefully we are all in better moods for it!
